This review is just to practice for reviewing. If there’s any impurities it’s not my fault because my online server pings. I did play an MP game on this by myself, though. I plan to get this fixed.
Review for Mezmerize Space Lab by Mark NW!333:
First Impression: Great!
Well, this level started out really great. I may be rather biased towards this part simply because I like the colors of the tileset and the music goes well with it.
(4.5/5)
Gameplay + Balance: Good
The gameplay of the level was good, but not great. The level actually feels more like a battle level than a CTF level, because of its layout.
(6/10)
Eyecandy: Good
The eyecandy, I believe, was the best part of the level. The colors of the background (in layer 8) look glitchy but that’s the tilesets fault.
(6.7/10)
Event Placement: Good
There’s plenty of ammo, not too much, but not too little. Enough said.
(6/10)
Flow: Bad
This is where the level ‘flunks’. Bumps here, hard-to-reach parts there. Try making it so that the player doesn’t have to jump so often. Also, certain parts at the top of the level were quite hard to reach.
(5/10)
Bonuses/Deductions:
- I like the tileset, and the music fits well IMO (+0.2)
Calculations: (4.5 + 6 + 6.7 + 6 + 5) / 5 + 0.2
(out of 45 points, you get 28.2)
= (28.2)/5 + 0.2
= 5.64 + 0.2; rounded to 5.6 + 0.2
= 5.8
Download Recommendation: N/A
(Yes needs 7.5 or higher)
Base Score: 5/10
Point Bonuses: +1
[+1] Promising start. But…
Point Deductions: -5
[-1] …it quickly degrades into what’s best labelled as “the musings of the tone-deaf”.
[-2] New samples clash considerably and are just as badly off-key.
[-1] The new samples are REALLY LOUD at some points.
[-1] What’s with those random blank spots? Those don’t sound good at all.
Final Score: 1/10
Don’t give up, but don’t upload anything else until you get some feedback prior to uploading. I mean this in the nicest way, mind you, as feedback from member on the forums can be very helpful.

Not much to say about this remix, I’ll try and make this a detailed review…
The biggest problem by far is that none of the samples are in tune with each other, and in any song, that sounds awful and shows a lack of listening skills to what you have remixed (although TIMM may have just gotten away with it with thier orbitus remix, but it’s still a bad thing). This problem is made even worse, as most of the samples kept are from the original castle song anyway. In fact, all that has been done here is a change in one of the samples and some swapping around of all the patterns (which, in turn has also completely ruined the structure of the song). Oh, and one of the ends of the pattern is cut off, but that’s about it.
RATING: 1.9
DOWNLOAD?: I think not. Unless some drastic improvements, tracking skills and a lot more effort is put into any further remixes, I (with regret) don’t think music is for you.
So there are two very conflicting ratings on this tileset. To clear things up, it is unfortunately awful, and SPAZ18’s review is much more accurate.
Eyecandy: 3/10
There are a couple nice, 3d looking tiles, and you can make a fairly neat looking disintigrating tile animation. However, the rest of the tileset is pretty bland, or even ugly. Most of the ground is simple, cartoonish, and don’t mesh at all with each other. The background doesn’t work for textured, and doesn’t even look like it tiles 100% right. Many tiles were very poorly created. There are a flower and vine, which look very two dimensional. The only other real eyecandy is a bunch of Spaz’s with people’s names over them. However, they can only really be used for inside jokes, and will be entirely useless to the vast majority of people. And there is no eyecandy at all for foreground and background.
Usability: 2/10
This tileset is very hard to use. It has a bunch of letters and symbols(too many probably), vines, and a couple destruct tiles. However, the tileset is mainly hard to use because its lack of basic tiles. Even on the example level, bland orange slant tiles are placed next to the 3d tiles, looking very ugly, because they clash. The mask is also imperfect, with a few pixles of one of the charaters masked. Unfortunately, I can not imagine this tileset being widely used.
Originality: 1/5
I’m thinking of a tileset with solid colored walls. And some letters. This tileset does nothing new.
Bonus: Includes an example level: +1
Total: 7/25=28%=2.8/10
Sorry, no download recommendation.
..Need I say more?
9.7 is completely overrated!
In the tileset, you will find tiles ripped from MEZ02, some poorly drawn signs, ugly text blocks and ugly red ground.
Very few animations can be made out of this set.
The background tiles look bad.
Apart from the MEZ02 tiles, the tileset was obviously made in MS Paint.
I cannot give anymore than a 2.5
I like it! xD
EDIT:Rating changed…
Edited on Monday the 24:th of March
This is a very mspainty nature tileset.
Theme:
The theme is ok. You can make a green ground (grass), a brown ground (soil?) and you can even make caves if yu want to.
The background shows a singlecolored blue sky where you can have stars, clouds and a sun.
Eyecandy:
The tileset contains much eyecandy such as bushes, fire and other plants.
Sceneries and stuff:
There are some destruct blocks and spikes, but nothing else.
Painting:
Some parts ok. Some parts bad. Everything is very simple. It’s okay for a first time, but a lot more effort could have been laid on this tileset.
Atmosphere:
This tileset gives an everyday feeling. To me.
Overall:
This tileset contains some good stuff but it is drawn too bad. It reminds a little of painted paradise and a little of mspaint.
Rating: 4
There is something good about this tileset but it still looks too ugly. A little more carefulness if you make any more tilesets.
EDIT: Download recommendation:
First I didn’t recommend this tileset but I’ve changed my mind and I think you can give this tileset a chance if you’re going for a simple tileset with an everyday atmosphere.
