A fun little level that provides fun gameplay in both regular and ODT-style duels. The layout is well designed, with two carrots that can be tactically manipulated. The level features a copter that does not despawn until it is taken, which is a nice touch. The EC is somewhat average for the given tileset, but it does the job. Worth your time!
Gameplay: 2.1 / 3.4
Placement: 0.3 / 0.8
Although the powerups are placed nicely, perhaps you could have placed at least one above, as they are all on the bottom of the level. The carrot slightly compensates it, though it can fall down easily. Ammo pickups are placed nicely and don’t think there is a lack of them.
Flow: 1.8 / 2.6
This level consists out of many small areas. They are however, big enough to have nice individual combat there. Also little springs are used, players can gain altitude by jumping on higher platforms or using vines, those are actually the only 2 ways in this level. Both teams have a warp to get to the bottom of the opponents base, though you can move through the carrot area only from one base, so that’s a bit biased. If this level had some spectacular original gameplay it would have been even better.
Eyecandy: 2.3 / 3.3
The background looks very detailed and certainly adds to the feeling the level gives you. The platforms all look much alike, of course you are bounded to the tileset though. Not much foreground to be seen here, you could’ve decided to add the things hanging from the ceiling to the foreground.
Originality: 2.0 / 3.3
As said before, this level lacks real inventive gameplay. Though the layout doesn’t really look much like other levels. Also the potential carrot area is quite a big part of the level, you did a good job there. I also like the hollowed out dead end at the toaster PU which causes the dead end to be not much of a problem.
Final Grade: 6.4
Can’t touch this!
The first public full implementation of a custom game mode in AngelScript, and it’s well worthy of it. While the included level is a bit plain and questionably balanced, the concept of the game mode more than makes up for it. I hope someone makes more levels for this game mode!
A well designed level with a nice flow and almost no gameplay flaws (perhaps a spring at 78,68 would be a good idea?). The atmosphere is really nice, the music fits the level, although it could use more background eyecandy (yes yes I know, Rag said you don’t need to but it would still be great). One thing though: why the invisible walls on the left side? They can be quite confusing.
Other than that, it’s a good level! Make some more :P
looks nice and has nice gameplay and item placement… but the tile set u used is… how to say it? TOO DARK!!!
I think this review has not enough of reasons given, but it’s too long for a quick review, so I’m going to leave it this way. :P
uh….no.
This does NOT deserve a 9 at all.
It’s not a bad level [it does have decent eyecandy and an okay song. It’s playable to an extent], but there’s a few things that perhaps could be fixed. First off, it’s pretty big. I don’t understand why whoever it was [I think it was Foly] that said this level is small said that. Ammo was few and far between.
I will give you a 6.9, since I’m a nice caring guy that hates taking out the trash on people. And because there WERE some decent elements to your level. N/A dl rec, since I can’t decide what to decide.
[Please don’t rate levels if you can’t play them properly (this level requires JJ2+). Original rating 5.0. ~cooba]
Yes, I understand, Cooba. But I couldn’t see the “jj2+” symbol when I wrote this review. My apologies. I will fix that part of the review.
Don’t use such dark tilesets for multiplayer levels, it totally ruins it (unless it’s part of the concept)
The level isn’t particularly bad in any aspect, but it doesn’t have any outstanding factors, either. My biggest gripe is the lighting; making the level get dark just as I’m about to cross a pit is simply unfair. As you’ve said yourself, this level feels rushed and unpolished. This is still an okay level, but just isn’t designed very well. C
Thanks Treylina, I have to agree with you that a 9.5 is way too high, I much rather see advice on how to improve then a high mark. As for the seeker and blaster: Did you try using the same ammo as the power up to get it? Its not hard to get it if you know how to :). The lack of ammo is because I havent tested this level yet, I thought it was enough because this level is pretty small (you can go from point A to point B verry quickly so you can collect ammo faster) and the respawn time wasnt too high. Its probably one of the few gameplay issues I still wanted to change (I want to have a balance between spamshooting and collecting). Last: I uploaded this level because I really didnt plan to continue on it and I still wanted advice on how to improve.
Lol 9.5? No offense, but this lvl is rather over-rated. I know you “lost your motivation”, but there could’ve been much more done to make it better. You could’ve worked on it on the next few months maybe…(well, I have a battle lvl I’ve been really lazy about working on, but it’s taken sooo many months, possibly even more than 6 because I’ve been so lazy about it) The layout is fine, but ammo is seriously lacking in some places.
My advice is spread out the ammo a bit more- like put some of them in a path evening out or something so you can collect them on your way, or maybe add some more around the rather empty areas.
I understand that you dislike lvls where you just shoot as much as possible, but this is seriously lacking ammo in some places…it’s not even funny and makes it look rather unfinished.
And I’m going to be honest here, but I was never really a fan of this tileset. It’s kind of hard to see what’s going on in it, and a bit too dull for my tastes, you don’t really need to change the tileset to improve it, I’d just really like it more if you added more ammo in some kind of way. As for music, the music is fine.
I’ll leave this at N/A because maybe one day you’ll finish it off. And because this wasn’t really a proper review…
EDIT: ROFL this is featured! I have better reviews out there, this one sucks compared to the most of my other reviews. Btw took out the bit on asking how to get blaster and seek PU.
This level left me without words,i really enjoy it,it has amazing gameplay, very fun to play no annoying pits, very much intensity,It just left me without words.
It’s okay with eyecandy,nothing special.
It’s really enjoyable you should download it.
Levels are nice. I especially like the battle level,it’s creative. Sorry,no time for a larger review.
