Ok this might sound realy stupid but, here goes: How can I combine 2 or more tilesets ? I dont mean adding everything from a tileset to another, just 1 block from here 1 from there etc...

Simple answer: you can't.
Not so simple answer: Use the tileset extractor to extract the bitmaps for both tilesets. Then rearrange the tiles as you see fit. Make sure that the mask file fits the new arrangement. Run the result through TilesetPal to get a palette that works. Then re-compile in JCS and build a level with the new tileset. If this terminology is strange to you, you should read through Disguise's Tileset Resource first. The result will probably look worse than expected, as tilesets can only use 256 colours (actually even less), and probably both tilesets combined use more. But it all depends on the tilesets you are merging. |

I feel I have to ramble a little here, But I feel it's important to mention some ethics here.
I feel "Borrowing" tiles from tilesets is plagerizing to teh highest degree. but the problem is, when making a custom levelset tileset, this is the quickest way to get the elements you need without the tileset looking like (-). |

Here's the thing. What's the difference between using one person's tiles and using two people's tiles for your levels, Puffie40?

Now I'm probably being a hippocrate because I am doing the very thing with two tilesets, but I fully intend to give them credit in both the tileset and the levelset they are going in. |
Jul 14, 2008, 07:40 AM | |
Why? Unless you say "TILESET BY PUFFIE40" in your level or the tileset or the readme or whatever this doesn't really make sense.

I've always felt that if someone did not explicitly say "Do not reuse my tiles" (which a few people have done), then the first thing to do is to try and get their permission to reuse them personally. If that is not possible (they're no longer in the community etc.), then I have no problem with just crediting them for the tiles.

Noob you have picked Speeza out and flamed him in particular on several occasions. I never understood what you have against him. I can see why he doesn't wanna reply to you.

Compile the tileset in JCS. Just use the tutorial to find out how.

![]() Actually, the image. you need to combine the mask the same way you combined the tiles on your picture.

I got a complete different question, but i was not feeling like starting a new thread.
I am kinda busy with my 1st tileset, and my planing was to create a textured background of a chessboard, kinda like this: ![]() You see the edges are kinda, well, edgy, and not in a smooth line. Is there a way to change this, or should i give up hope?

That's how JJ2 renders the 3D plane, nothing can be really done to that.

Of course it's out there. For all we know 1.24 might have a community with the source code. And everytime we enter there servers the level is transfomed into a hotel and they all pretend they don't know english. YOU FOOL THE THUTH OF 1.24 MUST BE REVEALED !

Another unrelated question. I'm making a level where I want to use a foreground trigger. I've managed to get the trigger I want to work perfectly in the background, but for some reason when I copy the entire background layer exactly using the shift-b shortcut key on JCS, and paste it into a foreground layer with exactly the same properties, it stops working. Can anyone explain how foreground triggers work diffrently, or how I might be able to solve this problem?
|
Sep 14, 2008, 06:30 PM | |
You need JCS+ for that. Basically, background triggering relies on the archetype of a block having the trigger scenery event in it. Blocks in layer 4 can act as archetypes for layers 5-8 because they are considered first when saving the level, but layers 1-3 are considered before layer 4 and may therefore form archetypes themselves, but not derivations.
|
Sep 15, 2008, 12:07 PM | |
So where can one get JCS+? Or is it a privately released thing that I'll have to do without?
|
Sep 15, 2008, 01:04 PM | |
It's still a long way from being finished.
|
Sep 16, 2008, 11:40 AM | |
I don't think you can say 10% is just finished. Also it's been like that for a while. If you meant it's 10% before completion then I must say no it isn't :P.
You could always start your own ![]()

The signature of the maker of the program said it was finished for 10% of the work. Which is really a long way away.
Anyhoo... how long has this JCS+ thing been worked on? I saw in a post from somewhere 2007 it was allready mentioned. I thought this JCS+ thing was a realative new one, in association to JJ2+(+)? .................................................. ...................^^ There`s been an update on JJ2+...

There both made by diffrent people , and most people in the community can't think of any diffrent names so they just add +. Nothing wrong with that but it does get dull :P. Next people will think those tileset edits pj made are to do with them. Also neobeo is a very busy person according to some people , so he can't work on it often.

So there`s TWO JCS+`s? How do we know which is the "right" one, the one to do, with what I think at least is to do with JJ2+, then?
Confusing? Which one is (as far as I`m guessing) to do with JJ2+, or is there none, do they just call it JCS+ because they can`t find another name for it?
