Lern2DOSBox

Can't get Jazz 1 to work right on your modern computer? Get DOSBox! Whining because you didn't use a computer during the DOS age? Lern2DOSBox! Here's how:

Step 1: Get and install DOSBox.
Step 2: Extract JJ1 into C:\Jazz1\ (or any directory, for that matter.)
Step 3: Open DOSBox.
Step 4: In DOSBox, type "mount C: C:\Jazz1" (or the directory you put Jazz 1 in)
Step 5: In DOSBox, type "c:", then "Jazz".
Step 6: Profit.

So easy there's no mystery step!

It's also worth noting that getting the sound work and making JJ1 run at the right speed might require extra tweaking. Oh, and Alt-Enter will switch DOSBox to full screen and back. You can also make it start by default in full screen by adding the -fullscreen parameter to the shortcut command line.

Also, you forgot to tell people to press enter at the end of certain steps.

Also, when you do that on linux when you do the mount you should do this:
mount c /home/username/path/to/jazz1

For a little more advanced users I recommend VDMSound for JJ1 instead of DOSBox. First you have to patch FILE0001.exe with the Borland Pascal patch (TPPATCH.exe) and configure the sound of the game to Sound Blaster Pro. Now setup a VDMSound shortcut for the game with the right settings, run it, and you will play the game just as smooth on XP as you did on old plain DOS.

you don't... but... your avatar...
Darkjazz is one of the names given to the last boss of Episode 6, which was the last boss of JJ1 until JJCD.

Doubtful. It was just a quick holiday release, and adding a boss would probably have made them want to add to the engine, which clearly was undesirable.
