Midi the Squirrel Game Demo
This is a game I`ve been working on for quite some time, and I finally have a playable demo ready.
The game is about a spastic young squirrel named Midi Waffle who has bomb powers. His homeworld gets invaded by penguin pirates. As the game progresses, Midi learns new bomb elements that can be used for different things. After defeating all the pirate generals, he goes and takes down the penguin flagship. The gameplay is a strange mix between Jazz, Megaman, and Bomberman. To download, go to http://kylontario.deviantart.com and click on the featured submission. I`d give a direct link to the file, but I`m on a phone and can`t copy text. To follow development progress, check out twitter.com/sciurious. For questions and bug reports, email midi@null.net. Hope you guys enjoy the game! |

I played through it. It worked fine for me on a Vista. It was pretty well done. It generally looks cool, and was pretty fun. I didn't see much in the way of bugs. I think there are a few little issues I noticed. It was a bit too hard to run out of bombs in my opinion, and I never really felt I had to worry about conserving ammo. Also, the levels were really obviously made of tiles. The tunnels that looked to be made out of dirt had all right angles, which made them seem really artificial. But there were also a ton of nice little touches. I like how the "run" pretty much applies to any action, whether swimming, running, rolling, or jumping. Also, on the moving platforms, Midi's tail reflects the direction you're moving. Overall, I enjoyed it, and think that it's a very promising demo. Thanks for sharing it.

Pretty good game. Quite Enjoyable. Keep up the good work!
As for bugs, here is my Bug/ Question log -Animation for walking down slopes is skippy -You can fire Bombs about 6-7 times faster underwater -You have to get so close to the walking penguins to fire you almost always get hurt, making them harder than the flying ones -If you hit a wall curled up, you uncurl -If you tap a side direction while on a wall you get a huge boost sidways, like 2-3 screens length -the blocks that are clear but become solid cannot be shot through so you can hide under them -if you swim under a solid surface the animation skips -if you stand still to long the animation of the tail slows down and looks weird -closing text can require multiple button presses which is annoying -if your curled you jump at a weird angle not vertically -flying penguins go through walls (that may be intentional -if you tap -> Z -> you leap way faster, much easier then dashing then jumping -if you dash on springs you got way faster and farther (may be intentional) - |

I noticed the training music goes kind of "fuzzy" in spots.
I have to agree the floating penguins are easier than the walking ones. the first level layout is a little linear, what what platformer is not? I do like the character's attributes and you definately have the animation down. |
