The Future Evolution is here.
For the Music click here: FeMusic.zip
When Jazz and the royal family suddenly disappered. the two rivalling clans the “Red Wolf”
and the “Royal Blue Guards” went in a massive war that holds more then 25 years. Now at the
end an new weapon technologie was discoverd that made a new evolution in the history of
Carrotus…
Well, almost a year after the release of the first beta version, the future evolution is finaly here. Counting 10 levels, 10 tilesets and 10 music files, this one one of the best CTF packs i have seen here yet.
Eyecandy is without doubt the strongest aspect in this pack. Each of the tilesets was pushed to its very limits, and with a great result: each of the levels looks outstanding, and is makes nearly perfect use of the chosen tilesets. Space stations, other dimensions, chemical labs; you’ll find it all in the future evolution.
Gameplay and layouts aren’t as good as the eyecandy, but still way above average. The first 7 levels are way big, and have very good layouts. Springs and waprs are well placed, and every level has some interesting details and secrets to discover. There are hidden tubes, warps and other fun things included in each level. Gameplay was a bit nasty in some spots, because of some useless obstacles and wrongly placed springs or platforms. The things that kinda anoyed me was that the last 3 levels, Ext-morse, Deeply Rage and Astroni-Ave where a bit too small to my liking. It would have been beter if the smaller levels would be mixed with the larger ones, creating a more enjoyable level loop.
The ammo placement is pretty good in this pack, and i don’t have much complaints or other coments about it. Ammo has been well devided across all levels, making it unlikely that you’ll be runing around with only your blaster to defend yourself. Powerup placement is very good as well. Powerups have all been placed a good distence away from each other, unlike in some other levels I’ve seen, in which you could just see 2 powerups on your screen. Carrot placement i consider a weak spot in most this packs levels. The best way to place carrots in a CTF level, imo, is to put in 1 to 2 full energys, and 1 to 2 normal carrots, in case you use only one full energy.
I’m not too much of a fan of some of the music choices in this pack, but the music selection of especialy the first 4 levels is very good. The pack includes some awesome music files like Skaven’s Return of the cats and Necros’ origenal version of the No Regret song.
To sum it up: the Future Evolution is really a MuSt DoWnLoAd for every Jazz2 player. Like Aiko once said: If you don’t download this, you don’t download anything, because you can’t be a jazz2 player in that case.[This review has been edited by >CelL<]
I’m one of Shadows biggest fans. I want second review (coming later :-).[This review has been edited by Aiko]
A very nice pack indeed, but the rating is drawn back by some not-so-good levels like FoRceDraw and the Space Warbase one.
Still, a must have FoR any true Jazzer, as it still contains levels like ClAuStRo and Blastring Tron Project.[This review has been edited by RagE XR]
Space reserved for 6th review. When I get around to d/ling this..
OKAY lets start reviewing, first off all lets start about the eyecandy. Well, in all the levels I saw there is great Eyecandy, like moving starships and those space rocks etc etc, the layer 5/7 is nice too. Maybe a bit to much layer 3, some times I see something and think its a masked layer 4 so I try to go on it but…its layer 3 and I fell down. Bleh!
The Ammo-placement is good placed, but on some places in several levels there are bunch of mixed ammo, which really irritate me some times, because I have to switch weapons etc. The distance between the flag bases are long enaugh, except in small levels, then its way too short. Anyway I dont have much time left to review, together Its a really nice Pack and a Download recommendation from me. Well Done.
Dont mind my Typo’s :p[This review has been edited by Super Saiyan]
Hmmm, I’m supposed to comment on this, but I cant really. Sure I can say the usual stuff like “This is a CTF pack with 10 levels made by futuristic tilesets blah blah”, but this deserves more. Sure it’s a CTF pack, but its not just any CTF pack, its the best CTF pack I’ve seen.
The amount of time spent on eye candy and design, even to the smallest degree amazes me, each level is unique from the other, but all still keep the same futuristic theme. Good job boss, shame on the rating, I think you deserve higher.
Wargh! Too nice for words.. Now, a few then.
Eyecandy is the best. Top. Super. Total good. Verygood use of the tilesets, nice that “blah nice blah super blah good”.
Gampplay is good, but not so nice like the eyecandy. Let’s upload it.
PU&Weapon Placement is pretty amazin’. Here and there some Bouncys, There and here what Peppys. Nice.
Music rocks. That’s the only what i can say. Let’s say it. I say it. Yeah?
Overall: Tha best battle pack (Err.. Blade’s BP have that too.) ever. Download this now or you are a chicken leg.
I’ve tested this pack fairly extensively over the internet, and I’ve enjoyed it. There have been problems with levels going to each other but I’ll review what I can.
No problems with installation. There was a readme to boot.
INSTALLATION RATING: +
Obviously the strong point of the pack. Shadow obviously knows what he is doing visually, and it shows with his appealing style of mapping.
EYECANDY: 3/3
Weapons and gameplay are the downfall of this pack. Weapon placement is mediocre and level navigation is poor. Carrot placement is awful.
WEAPONS: 1.2/2
NAVIGATION/CARROTS: 2.1/4
SUBTOTAL: 3.3/6
Feels like a solid, polished pack to me; but it lacks the charm of a classic.
OVERALL “FEELING”: .7/1
Pretty decent levels overall. I’m borderline on giving a download reccomendation, but since a good deal of others like it I’d reccomend you download it.
TOTAL SCORE: 7/10
ROUNDED SCORE: 7/10
I generally liked this level pack, except maybe for Ext-Morse, Deep-Rage, and ForceDraw. Some of the eye-candy is mediocre, but most of it is good. I think I like ShockWave and 12 hour Tea (even though the BG sux in 8-bit; I play that w/o a textured BG) the most. IMO, I think you should make more levels that are like Slab Ratz.
This perhaps is not what I expected, but it’s still good and worth a download.
This is an amazing piece of work.
Almost all the levels are fantastic, and this is a must-download. I can’t recommend this pack enough.
Level 1: Introduction level or something
There wasnt a need for this, and it isnt a level, so i wont rate this.
Space Station ALita 7: THis level uses disguise’s awesome spacey universe tileset, and it makes goood use of it too. It has interesting eyecandy, and good layout. The ground and walls are well decorated and the ammo placement is kinda fun. NOthing more to say here
Astroni-Ave: Strange name, using blade’s awsome space tileset. The layout is good, so is the spring placement. Eyecandy can be annoying, but is good. Placement on my opinion is actually great, not over or underused. NOthing more to say here as well.
Claustromania or somethin’
Nice layout and eyecandy, the level is mostly calm and simple, and i like it. Nice placement, and i just liked this one. No comment
Deeply rage: Sweet eyecandy, nice placement, nice tileset use. I didnt really like the floatuing letters though.
Ext-Morse:
Eyecandy rocked, especially the foreground spaceships, such creativity. Good gameplay, though i feel the level could of been just a bit bigger.
Blasting Tron Project: Lol funny text, counter-terrorists win. Its like jj2 is really counter strike in disguise;P. Ahem, now the level. My only comment about this is that it is very goood for a tubelectric level. Bah, one more comment, good spring and sucker tube use
12 hour tea: Hate the backround, love the music, lovethe eyecandy nd the layout placemnt was really fun as well.
Waste house: Nice eyecandy, but the same ol’dethman tilesets get boring after a while, i had them for over a year now. Nice layout and a big level.
Shockwave: Nice layout, nice eyecandy. Thats all since i am tired of writing 4 or five long reviews like this all in one hour.
Tb Shockwave: IS it me or are these the same levels (this and the one above)
Force Draw: COnfusing, but nioce eyecandy, nice spaceships. Placement could of been more “lively”
Ill add more to the review later, but im dead tired right now.
