As far as I know, the best minimum size is about three or four tiles.

Why just not make the thickness until you can't see the edge of the screen?
Anyway, you should mask the left side of the level because if someone is way on the left, you can't be shot. Another thing, I am new to J2O but not JJ2. I don't know anything about the CTF Bug |

I thought it had something to do with dying outside of the level when you had the flag and making the flag go away forever?

I said that that was another flagbug. The one I posted is one as well, but what Radium meant is also one. Another problem is, when someone joins the server, he/she sometimes immediately has the flag.

To avoid death on flag, you could always put your bases in sucker tubes like in Zerox for creativity

True, but it makes capturing the flag in laggy servers more frustrating. Then again, why would you be trying to play CTF in a laggy server?
Moving on, the flagbug thing Radium mentioned happens very rarely, but what he said makes sense even though I never could figure out why it happens.
