Avatar size
Ahhh
I'm pulling my hair out... nothing I'm trying to upload works. 40 x 48 Pixels Filesize = 1.5K It seems JCF is using cluster size to measure the filesize. Cluster size = 4K Anyway, I was wondering if you could put the avatar filesize up to a 5K limit... it won't even upload avatars that are heavily degraded at this point.

Bleh, I could care less about avatars. I wish the signatures were a little more lenient, not as lenient as originally though.
BTW, send your pic to Monolith and he'll convert it for you. Lol, there's a certain program he used, but I forgot what it was called.

Here is the full size image. Yes, I resized it to 48x48, and every single time I try to retain the image quality it comes out larger than 3K... and anything 3K or below is terrible.

I used Corel Photo-paint (but any other decent graphics program will do the job). I took the original, cropped it to 192x192 and then resampled it to 48x48. Resizing looks a lot nicer when it's done by a simple fraction (e.g. 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5).
Then I first tried saving it as a 256-colour gif, but that was over the filesize. Dropping the number of colours to 128 did the job, and there doesn't appear to be any visible loss in quality. Oh, I told Corel to use an optimised palette (which means it looks for the best set to use, rather than a standard set or the first x unique ones) with no dithering on the image (so it used the closest colour). Main points: resize by a simple fraction, like 1/2 or 1/3, and use less colours. |

I tried to use custom pallettes with the GIF format but Photoshop must not be that smart to optimise it ;/

Well, on the rest of yours the fur looks too brown. On BB's the fur is a lighter color.
And larger filesize means more colors, right? ;D Edit: Of course on Radium's the white background might be fooling my eyes.
