Mechaius Builds

This thread will be used to announce the latest Mechaius builds available for download (at least until we get the code setup on some kind of version control system). It can also be used to report problems with builds, and for general discussion about the code.

Build 002

Download

  • Fixed crash on exit
  • Spinning object has new texture
  • Organized code quite a bit
  • Added some DirectInput stuff - you can now move the spinning object with arrows and mouse buttons
  • Removed C# Express Beta 2 project files - you can automatically convert the existing files if necessary

I reckon you need to have some VB5 or VB6 runtime files.

I meant to put this up yesterday, but forgot.

Yes, you will need the .NET Runtime installed in order to run these. I haven't tried these links, but I think they should work. They'll install the .NET 1.1 Framework.

- For Non-Coders (.NET Runtime)
- For Coders (.NET Runtime + SDK)

Reply if you continue to have problems after installing the framework.

Is there any way I can get the framework besides using Windows Update?

Try the link above again. I updated the 'Non-Coders' one to point directly to the dotnetfx.exe installation page.

Build 001 had a couple odd problems, but Build 002 works fine. Compiles, runs, doesn't crash, and looks like a spinning cylinder with the J2O background textured on it.

Now what? :P Sure I can build the project myself, and modify things if I wanted, but I (or anyone) can't really add to the project until there are a few things in place.
  1. Some sort of version control system, so multiple people can work on the project at the same time and merge it together.
  2. Code standards and guidelines, to keep code consistant and not developing several different styles.
  3. A plan of what needs to be done.

I'm going to be busy for the next couple weeks (moving from California to Washington state). Could someone look into an online version control system we could use? Sourceforge? Anything?

I'd like to make the code more accessable as soon as possible, but don't have the time to look into it right now.

Sourceforge has CVS. That's all I really care about. (I also host a CVS server myself, although I still don't know if I can get the web based ViewCVS thing working.) I don't really know much about other options.
