I just thought I'd post my observation that you're killing your own community by your absurd ideas about legality and morality. No one, but you, cares if people Download Jazz Jackrabbit, Epic doesn't, neither does the now nonexistant GOD Games or Project 2 Interactive. Most likley the only reason these games aren't freeware is because Epic forgot about them. No one cares, but you and as a result your killing your own community.
If you weren't stuck on this crazy morality trip there wouldn't be to seperate versions of JJ2, everyone would have TSF, there'd be no need to install the game in two locations, etc. There would also probably be more people playing though at this point it'd likley be too little too late. Why am I posting this? am I going to start spamming JJ2 downloads or some other retarded activities? No. I'm just letting you give my observations and letting you lot know that you're one of the sorriest bunch of self destructive losers I've come across. |

Secondly, we're a smal community with a belief that if people were prepared to actually pay for a game like Jazz Jackrabbit, that may give a signal to Epic Games, who may then reconsider the Jazz Jackrabbit game series. After all, if it brings in money, it's suited for Epic, look at Unreal. If people keep on downloading JJ2 illegally, Epic will think it will not be worth to make another game. Result: a dead end, no more Jazz Jackrabbit games, the end of a great game series. Thirdly, the fact that we're smal puts us in a rather difficult position should it come to law-suits. Yes, should Epic find out that we would be distributing the game for free, they can easily shut us down and take everything we own, including the server we rely on for online play. Specialised warez sites are too big for Epic to be worth it, but smal fry like us they can easily handle. Just some food for thought. - JelZe GoldRabbit =:3 |

JelZe GoldRabit has got a point. Besides, first it's illegal downloads, then it's heavy metal, then it's hacking, next thing you know, you're sitting in a squad car.
But seriously, if you download illegal stuff, you will be less caring about other illegal stuff. It is a shockwave of bad stuff flying at you. "They don't care" and "as if it matters" are lies. It DOES matter. For example, Amazon.com gets money for Jazz 2, yet loses buisness when we get the game from the web. Also, you will find missing things in versions from the web usually so the server can take up less web-space. So, really, the only way you are killing the community is being unlawful. |

Well... I didn't find Jazz Jackrabbit 2 in the shops so I also downloaded it from the net using a program named (FQuist would probably delete the name because it contains strategical military top secret information on how to find Warez cilents bla bla bla).
But, if I find Jazz 2 in the stores I'll buy it because it's true, if we steal the game from the net Epic will think nobody's buying it. So, if you downloaded Jazz for free and you can buy the CD of the game, do it to show Epic that people still buy Jazz 2 (lol don't you want to have your own Jazz Jackrabbit 2 original CD)?

Like 6 people on this whole forum actually care about the "morality" or whatever behind giving jj2 away for free. That's different from being against distributing it on jazz2online by the way, because the people who run this site wish to obey the terms of service of their host. None of them care if you host it somewhere that's not their webspace. If some random jerk (not nessicarally even from epic) complained to the host, they could potentially cause a lot of trouble.
As for the whole idea of people buying copies of the game being a way to make epic start producing it again or a sequel, that's just foolishness. The game is effectively "out of print", with the only copies left being owned by a few online retailers. Even if they somehow ran out of stock and had to place an order for more copies, they wouldn't get them. It's simply not possible to create enough demand for that to occur, due to the costs associated with re-releasing a game. The best thing to do would just be to lobby epic for the release of the jj2 source code. That's what other game communities usually do, and it sometimes works. I'd agree with Crono but he's ranting about a "problem" that doesn't even exist for the most part. |

Not to mention the fact that it is useless to be anti-warez for JJ2 in THIS community, because there are plenty of abandonware sites that do offer JJ2 for free, and if we really cared about JJ2 'that way', we would also have to complain to them and ask them to take down their JJ2s from their download lists.

Lol, for being in the community since 1998, I've never heard of this 1.23 ---> TSF path....Dang, I have to find out where to get it. This is how I figure it, JJ2 (including JJ1) not worth buying unless $10 or less. If JJ2 was being sold in the stores I would pay $20 for it if it came bundled with TSF (and possilby CC99 - to replace HH98) and still JJ1. Half Life, to me isnot worth buying unless $30 or less....just for the fact that Half Life comes with 9 games. However I just bought the HL Plat Edition abotu 2 weeks ago, it was worth every cent, sort of. There were a few annoying bugs, and some things are dumb about the new Valve version of HL, overall a awesome legendary game. And one of the only 3d games that I can actually run on this PC. Anyway the game was $20 BTW add this to the JJ2 faq, where can I buy that Animaniacs and Battery Check games. Just because they are JJ2 related.

We first bought JJ2 in the stores about 5 or so years ago, and when we lost the disc only about a year ago, we found it in stock at several stores. And it cost only about $15 Canadian. The manual that came with it was pretty nice too.

I think most people who are willing to download a illegal version of a Jazz Jackrabbit game can manage to find it theirselves without our site's help. I *think*. I might be wrong. It would deliver us a few more community members at most, and to what expense?
My biggest policy argument against allowing warez here, keeping morals out of it since those probably convince less in these times (>:() and you probably already know them and have made up your mind about them, is that we're the #1 site for all fans. Promoting warez could potentionally get us booted from our host, or disliked by the developers. Hosting (or even linking to) warez is forbidden by our host's Terms of Service. Not complying might very well get us booted off. And trust me, it is not easy to find non-dedicated hosts that can host our site.

Because Epic hasn't declared the game free for all, or given J2O special permission to make it available, it would be illegal for J2O to provide the game for download. While there might be advantages for the community to have JJ2 freely available, it would still be illegal through the terms of service and end user licence agreements of J2O's host and Epic. It would certainatly not help the community to have it's main site (J2O) shut down due to legal action.

Yeah, like I said, downloading the game and not buying it appears on Epic's list as nobody's wanting it so they'll think that it's a waste of time and money to make Jazz 3.
Personally, I like stealing games like UT from friends or from the net, but I feel sorry I had to do the same with Jazz 1, Jazz 2 and Jazz 2 TSF.

I don't think the amount of downloads from Jazz2 is going to make much of a difference - and I also think the amount of illegal copies being downloaded of Jazz2 is much lower due to our policy. The publishers will check market demand for a new platform game, and I very much doubt they'll be influenced by a few dozen downloads more or less in their decision.

The thing is, if someone really wants to download JJ2 he'll do so, no matter what the admins over here say. However, if that downloader will get JJ2 illegally, at least it's not the admins' fault and they won't get into trouble.
