Hotels could be good if someone found good ways to add challenge to them.
Like having to feed your character enough food before the playtime is over, otherwise they starve and die.
Or if you dont pay enough rent you're thrown to the poor house.
Ooh ooh! You have to clean the bathrooms or the stench will make your room inaccesible until you hire a plumber!

Or... you could take all of those ideas and use them as themes for other gametypes where they would be more appreciated.
