Hum de hum, this is what happens when I have nothing to do.

I got inspired to write something. So, I did it. This is my progress so far. It seemed like a good "chapter" to me. It would be nice to get feedback, please. Here we go...

Lehu put his mug down. He stared into a light brown swirl of hot cocoa and wondered why it tasted funny. Staring out of the window, he idly dreamt up a conspiracy to poison himself. He imagined a large, husky-looking green rabbit with a ski mask and gloves on with a pistol in his right hand. The green rabbit crept in through the basement door up the stairs to the kitchen where water had been heating. The thought of the water in the kettle reminded Lehu that his zany seven-year-old brother Slivem had attempted to "boil" orange juice, which was where the unusual chocolate flavor had come from. He was satisfied with this answer and decided he kind of liked the new taste.

Lehu looked down once again. This time he stared at his taxes collecting dust on his desk, next to an oversized rubber ducky. Taxes were due in a week. He was paying taxes for the first time, and was totally confused. Then he looked up through the window at the Shellfree public pool. He saw at least 12 rabbits playing Sharks and Dopefish, a game in which one or two kids playing as sharks tried to tag the dopefishes as they tried to cross the pool. He thought he saw a flash of maroon representing Slivem, but he wasn't sure. Lehu decided to check out the situation at the pool. He took the rubber ducky with him as a pool toy.

He trekked down to the ground floor of the large country house he lived in. He walked through the entrance hall, which was lined with framed photographs and paintings, including a portrait of the Jackrabbit family that had saved Carrotus almost 800 years ago. It had been painted using watercolors and Lehu only spend $8.50 on it, but it served its purpose - to remind him that anybody can change the galaxy.

When Lehu looked at the Jackrabbits, it instilled within him a strong sense of pride. He remembered that centuries had passed since Jazz, Spaz, and Lori Jackrabbit had defeated Devan Shell and his minions. The trio was solely responsible for liberating Carrotus from the turtles. Since then, however, the galaxy had not been peaceful. More heroes had been born and more antagonists had been slain...

Lehu's moment of patriotic inspiration passed abruptly when the floorboard underneath him collapsed. He fell through to the basement and his blue, furry bottom landed on a pile of firewood. Lehu was in pain. But, he then remembered that he had a mission - to go to the pool. Forgetting about the hole in the middle of the hall, he hopped out of the basement door and went on his way.

Unconsciously, he had been squeezing the rubber ducky in his hand since he had fallen. Continuing to walk, Lehu looked at it again. He admired the attention to detail in the ducky's eyes - it almost looked like they were glaring right at him. Lehu looked at the facial expression, examining the mouth, nose, cheeks, and ears. He thought it looked like the ducky was giving him an evil look.

Once again, his train of thought pulled up at the station as Lehu arrived at the pool. He gave a quick "Hey" to the lifeguard as he passed by then ran and jumped into the water. His blue fur was dampened by clean, sparkling water at a perfect temperature. He saw Slivem on the other side of the pool and they made eye contact with each other. Behind Slivem, a beautiful cyan-furred female rabbit in a bikini caught Lehu's eye. She stepped to the side to reveal an even more attractive girl of the same color behind her. The bunny was absolutely gorgeous. Her tail was perfectly rounded and her chest fur accented the rest of her hair stunningly. Mesmerized, Lehu swam over quickly to greet her, dropping the rubber ducky on his younger brother's head as he passed Slivem without acknowledging him at all.

Lehu looked her in the eyes to introduce himself. He went almost four seconds without saying anything. Then, awkwardly hesitant, he glanced away in an attempt to divert attention from his failure to speak. He decided to say the first thing that came to mind and looked back quickly.

"Have you seen my brother?"

"I don't know; what does your brother look like?"

"He's kind of dark red. Or purple," Lehu stammered. "In between."

The girl stared at Lehu for a second and a half, and then looked at Slivem, who was only a couple yards away. She pointed and said, "You mean him, right there?"

"Um, no. I mean, yeah, thanks, that's him." Lehu realized that he was not making himself look very intelligent. He decided to attempt to change this notion by modifying the conversation topic.

"Right. No problem," the girl responded disinterestedly and started to turn away.

Lehu improvised again. "So, what do you think about the kid's grades?" He immediately realized that that was one of the stupidest sentences to ever come out of his mouth.

"What? I don't know him."

"Guess," replied Lehu. He decided to give up trying to make a decent impression and plainly go for the kill.

"You're retarded. Why are you talking to me?"

"What's your name?" asked Lehu.

"My name's Allegra."

"You're hot; will you go out with me?"

"No," said Allegra, holding back laughter.

Lehu walked away, glaring at Slivem, who had been innocently tossing the rubber ducky around with some other kids. Slivem didn't pay any attention to Lehu's frustration. However, the rubber ducky glared back intensely.
