Nova's Arts.

So I return with new arts! That needs critique. Most likely urgently, but who cares for that!!

First I'll say that the head looks a bit too big in the first picture. Also, the back ear is a bit short. It should be longer horizontally than the front one, because the front one is bent, while the back one is (or should be) straight.

As for the background, it's alright, but her expression doesn't really seem to match up for such a nice day. She seems surprised at someone's or something's presence, but there isn't anything else to hint at this. When doing a shot which is meant to represent an emotion, it's often good to attempt to inspire that emotion through the help of the environment.

Now, for the second piece, I'll start by saying that the ghost thing looks a lot like the Sith Lord Marko Ragnos from Jedi Knight Academy... The ghost looks very spirit-like, so I think that worked out.

As for the character, I can't really see very much of (her?) though I presume she's robbing a tomb or something? The environment doesn't really help explain the situation, and the object she's holding seems to resemble a tricorder or a grappling hook. Neither of which seem to explain the situation.

Now, if it's a gun, it should be held less pointed out, as I presume you wouldn't want to accidentaly fire at a wall and alert Mr Ghosty. She doesn't seem to be holding it like it's very dangerous, so I presume it must be a scanner of some sort.

If you're going for a Ghost-busters thing here, it's on the right track, but I'd reccomend adding some more environment and maybe show off more of the character's... scanner thing...

How was that Radium?

Radium critiquing a critique on a piece of art is like some kind of MC Escher painting spurred to life.

*applauds Shade*. I agree with him on everything, though I'd like to add a few things about the second one.

First of all, careful where the neck attaches to the head; it should attach towards the back. More specifically, in angles more complex than a frontal view, try thinking of the head as two separate parts: the skull and the jaw. The neck muscles flow smoothly into the skull, but the jaw is sort of attached onto the front, making the point of the chin stick out forwards. This picture shows the basic anatomy of how the neck attaches to the head:

So, in other words, her neck should flow a bit more into the back of her head, while her chin should be a bit to the right of her neck. You might want to make her chin smaller, too (the distance between her lower lip and the bottom of her head is much less in the other picture).
Her lower body looks kind of strange, but I think that's mostly due to it being shaded with the same color a the background. I can, however, point out that her lower legs are very tube-like and have no real gastrocnemius (fun word!). And yeah, the ghost turned out spectacularly spectral.

Overall, you're definitely improving. Go you!

I noticed the chin thing, I didn't think it was too bad at first. But yeah, necks aren't my best point, neither is handling objects, and I tried to fix the legs numerous times but it never worked out. Thanks for the tips, though!

The trick is to make the lower part of the leg thickest about 1/3 down (though whichever part is facing forward should remain flat), and then thinnest at the ankle. And you're welcome.

I think it looks very nice. I have pretty much zero knowledge in this field, so I'll just stuck with "it looks very nice."

Okay, first of all, looking at your gallery you have a total of three red wolf characters, all for the same project, two of whom look exactly the same in every way and one of whom looks about the same but with different colored eyes and forelegs. I'm not saying you should make each one a different primary color so people can tell them apart, but considering that they look so similar you need to put extra emphasis on conveying their character through differences in pose and expresion.

For instance, here's two random Balto images I grabbed off Google: (Image 1) (Image 2)
They're both dogs, and - considering it's a sketch - they're both colored the same. The thing that really separates them, though, is the posture - the second character has a very curved, upright neck that's looking down on someone. His ears are slicked back and his tail is curled. The massive collar, disdainful grin, and sharp, straight nose are all secondary to this, yet support the overall image portrayed by his posture. Despite similarities, this visually makes him a completely different character than the first sketch.

Hence, the problem is mainly that you've taken a boring pose. The character you've drawn is just standing there, walking forward slightly. It doesn't really say anything about her, other than confirming that she is not a paraplegic.

Quality-wise, though, the picture turned out quite well. Your lines are looking better and you've got a pretty good grasp on canine anatomy.

Her eyes don't look right, though. First of all, the iris and pupil aren't touching any of the sides of the eye, making the character look surprised. The middlepart of the eye with the pupil and iris is almost always partially obscured by the eyelids, or at least touching one of the sides of the eye. Having them away from the sides makes the character look like they're shocked about something.
Secondly, while the character is facing left, her eye is facing a bit towards the camera, implying she's either looking left slightly while keeping her body very rigid or has a lazy eye. Remember that eyes are these massive sphere-things in your head. When an eye is looking towards the camera, such as here, the pupil and iris will be circular, even if partially obscured. From the side, the pupil and iris go all the way to the side of the eye and are more like a very flat oval. While you started making the eye more elliptical, it's still fairly round and its positioning is too far towards the middle of the eyeball.

Also, her furthest back leg is too long. The one closest to you should look bigger.

Suka's actually for a different project, but yeah, Vesper and Bullet do look too much alike despite being siblings and I've been wanting to completely fix that for a while. I've always had a problem with different poses so I'll keep that in mind.
