Slight problem with text
![]() ...huh? Anyone know what's going on here? They used to be quotation marks, of course. |

Slight problem or potentially useful discovery? I've been wanting to use giant letters for a long time. It might've helped if you posted exactly what you used for the text string. But anyway, it looks like it's time for testing.

Well, I was trying to duplicate it by adding a few more characters, but then the B's stopped appearing, and they still weren't there when I tried again. In any case, here's what I have for the text string now, which I think is identical to what it was then but doesn't seem to be working anymore:
Code:
@@@@@WARNING! WARNING!@@Intruder Alert!@@@@# So much for "without Devan noticing".... Let's see, random bits of information... prior to the incident, I had gone through three different texts, none of them set to Vanish, and none containing character problems. I had one heart, and at one point a bubble shield but not anymore. That's probably all that might have any impact... my only notion is that it might have something to do with the numbers employed by the shield, but I don't really know. |

Ok, there's the level it's happening in (yes, it's happening again, it works). To view the text, reach the battleship and stomp inside. If the B's don't show up when you first enter, go over to the right for a bit and come back. If they still don't show up, exit and try playing the level again. I don't really know what factors make them appear or not appear. (You may comment on the level if you want, but keep in mind it's still heavily in progress.) |

I can't get the B's to show up, but I do like the idea the level uses.
Edit: I couldn't get anything on 1.23, but this is what I got for TSF: ![]()

Hmm, not able to make the big B's show up after trying your suggestions, Violet.

They look like the kind of giant letters you see when the text zoom in/spiral into the screen in JJ2's menu. At first the letters are gigantic but when they start to spiral in, they get smaller until they reach normal size. Could just be more faulty coding, which makes the lvl "borrow" the giant letter effect from JJ2's menu.

It's just getting the wrong sprites from the library. The font comes in several different sizes, and it's using the wrong ones.
TSF shot: Huh... weird. That text is just messed up in general somehow. Faw: Probably something like Intensity30 and Red1, I forget the exact numbers, plus some pulze lights. It's all in the level. I don't know if that's really a water effect... and that article sucks anyway. It's woefully inaccurate and there's a lot of stuff I didn't say in it.

I finally got the B's, but it was after running through the level with the "jjgod" cheat.
On second thought, I'm still lost.

A question, how can there be stuff in the article you didn't say, does that mean someone else wrote it? I'm kinda confused. :-O EDIT: Quote:
The level was not much so far, but what I've seen I liked a lot. Maybe later add some asteroids in the background if the tileset features them (didn't look at it yet).

(Screenshot by Cooba, used with permission.) Odd as it seems that this should happen twice within a small time frame, here's another example of the B's. It looks like an edited screenshot, based on the x position, but Cooba says it's because the rest of the number is missing... which suggests a reason that this happens. (And I guess the hearts are also missing?) I'm guessing this is basically the same thing as when you host a big level, and people have various letters missing when they join the server, which is later fixed when they rejoin as they're not downloading anymore. (See also: MCE's in multiplayer.) So, when the level is really big (as Cooba says this Raging Inferno level is), or just is somewhat straining (lighting more than 100% has been known to cause problems for JJ2 before), sprites can occasionally go missing or get replaced. Oddly, it was again quotation marks that were replaced by the B's, suggesting that maybe some other characters would create other giant letters? |

Ah, it happened to me too in the Battleships level. But not the first time.
First time: normal letters Second time: normal letters Third time: some letters missing like in BlurredDs shot Fourth time: some letters missing like in BlurredDs shot Fifth time: Big B's. All later checks: Big B's. |

It did not happen to me in Fawriel's "Fragile Existence" (the shot Violet posted), nor in The Lost World Episode.
If it happened in LWE, over-lighting or big sized levels can't be the source of the problem, as LWE does not have lighting over 100%, nor really big levels (if you ask me). Fragile Existence is fairly big (at least it took me some time to play), about lighting I don't think (though I'm not sure).

Semi-pointless revival, but look, it works in multiplayer!
![]() ![]() This was after I changed the gamemode to Single Player and people were firing lots and lots of weapons. Various characters were no longer showing up (x, y, w, 6, 7, 8, 9, and most of the special ascii letters), and obviously quotation marks got switched to B's again. It's fun to be able to type them. Interestingly, at one point I got killed, and the BUMMER DUDE text appeared. However, the B in it (which should be standard large size, inbetween chat and giant) was chat sized. Odd. The other letters in the message were fine. |

I wasn't even in the screenie either though I was there =(.
This happend sorta like what happens in a big level and characters dissapear and you have to rejoin, maybe cause there's too much stuff ot handle. Lots of people in the server began using cheat codes (gametype was SP) like jjfire and stuff, and loosing a huge amount of ammo, so first some characters slowly started dissapearing (the o with the two dots above it, lower case w, y and z, numbers 6 - 9 etc) and the " marks turned to big Bs. was pretty cool, I have a few screenies of it too.

If I may add to that, it seemed to be dependent on the current player. When I saw the giant "b's" and lack of characters, others did not, and vice-versa. It seemed to be caused when in the vicinity of a person who used "jjfire."

personally, I didnt see anyone outside the box =P, or anyone using a laser for that matter (server couldve crashed because of excess lag from all the ammo discharge)

I've seen this before a lot, It's caused by a variety of things such as version conflicts, game types, hex editing, etc...

Revival because of seeing the B's
Sorry for reviving this thread, but today while playing Rebirth of Evil I saw the giant B's in the level devres18. Sadly, I don't have a screenshot though, because I went to the next level before I could. You will just have to believe me.
