Sound problems (in general)

My brother has the bad habit of installing these stupid experimental 'kX' drivers on every machine he installs, including mine. For a while they worked, until the sound stopped working. This was fixed by selecting "Reset Device Settings" in the driver menu every time I booted. Recently, the sound stopped working altogether. Just now, I decided to uninstall the drivers and reinstall the normal Creative drivers. However, that doesn't seem to be the problem, because no matter what speakers or headphones I connect (I tried all the ports just to be sure) I don't get any sound.

I'm using Windows XP and my sound card's a Sound Blaster Live!. It's always been working up until now. =/

Format the machine and reinstall windows. It's the only cure.
