It's a shame the Jazz3 alpha is illegal, seeing how it's fully moddable. Hell, the standard Unreal level editor even comes with it along with all the script packages. It's as moddable as any other Unreal-powered game. That being said..
I know the alpha is illegal, but if I made some mods for it would they be considered illegal as well? The only thing keeping the alpha illegal is the engine it runs on, so I guess the scripts and media created by the original team do not belong to Epic. I could distribute the mods by themselves, and anyone who happens to have the alpha "wants to" could download them (get what I'm saying). Sure there's supposedly some indie projects out there but even if one of them was to make it, it's still more fun playing around with the original product. * I was also going to ask if anyone had recently gone to Epic to ask about the alpha, but I guess it doesn't matter if it's outdated or not. Now that I think of it, there's not really any free standalone Unreal-powered games out there. If there were, you could basically make your own game by completely modding the original game and the re-distribute it. I'm also pretty sure Epic earns royalty fees off each title. So it will never be "legal". |

No.

"No" to what?
I know that. I've already worked with ut2k4 before. I'd rather mod Jazz3 for my own purposes; mainly for the reason of modifying an already fun, yet rare, game. Adding levels, adding guns, etc. There's not enough dedicated people on these forums to really get a project going from scratch. Last edited by David; Aug 21, 2007 at 09:14 AM. |

Come to think of it would open-jazz3d make the game legal?
EDIT: nevermind i forgot that as you may have a legal engine you do not legally own the game contents. We could replace them with our own but at that rate we might as well make a new game.

Techinically i'm not sure about whether it's legal or not. I've been thinking about it for a bit of time now. It's illegal to own the game. It's illegal for other people to own the game but I mean is it illegal to uploads mods to an illegal game?
Chances are, yes. I mean if you had marijuana in your house it's illegal to own or to sell/give out. So could you modify the bong and sell it online legally?

Well, there are certainly other "JJ3" projects around that made a lot of progress, but they didn't receive too much outside help either.

I could try and get some of my friends interested. I mean up where I live i'm the only person who spends this kinda time on the computer. That's why i'm jelous of my cousin. His school is loaded with hackers and he was asking around one day and well aparently one person in the school knows the nick Drmoo but up here I have no friends who play this game or have any desire to learn programming so i'm pretty much stuck in my own little world that nobody understands.

yea i dont know much about what's illegal with drugs and whatnot so i couldn't answer that one. Thanks. So i guess chances are you CAN legally put mods of jj3d up for download. Depending on your countries laws about selling bongs. XP

Yeah, I thought about it some more. Even if there was a slight chance in hell that it was illegal (which wouldn't make sense), I STRONGLY doubt Epic would throw a fit about a mod to a game they forgot about that almost everyone can't get lol.
The hardest part is coming up with ideas =/ |

A JJ3 modding project has already been done (illegally), and has already failed. Online play works (more or less), and there are (I believe) two new multiplayer maps and one single-player one.

I don't see why it's illegal.
