Also including order of convenience (conv) and interest (intr), 1 being most convenient/interesting.
1. Chicago - Less convenient [conv: 6, intr: 1] 2. Seattle - Somewhat convenient [conv: 5, intr: 6] 3. Portland, Ore. - Somewhat convenient [conv: 4, intr: 3] 4. San Francisco/Santa Cruz, Calif. - Somewhat convenient [conv: 3, intr: 5] 5. Los Angeles/Orange County/I'd rather die from Marburg, Calif. - Very convenient [conv: 2, intr: 4] 6. San Diego, Calif. - Extremely convenient [conv: 1, intr: 2]

Wherever it'd be the "cheap"est to fly to.

Eh, All of them are just as inconvenient, so I'll just rate them according to interest.
1. Interested! 2. Interested! 3. Kind of Interested. 4. Meh. 5. No. 6. Argh no. 7. (Denver) HECK YES!!!

Right now I'm not sure how feasible it will be for me to go at all, since I haven't confirmed my job and financial situation for the summer. All the listed places would require flying or multi-day driving for me, so none is really more or less convenient than any other.
We had a meeting in Seattle already, and I was kind of interested in Chicago since I've never been to that part of the US before, so… 1. Very interested 2. Not interested 3. Interested 4. Interested 5. Not interested 6. Interested

I'm in a similar position to Link, not having secured a summer job yet, but in the process of looking.
I agree with Link that Seattle is not a very good choice as we have already done that one. 1. Chicago (interested) 2. Seattle (not interested) 3. Portland, Ore. (interested) 4. San Francisco/Santa Cruz, Calif.(less interested, because weve done this one as well) 5. Los Angeles/Orange County (interested) 6. San Diego, Calif (not very interested) |

I DEMAND that Denver be added to the list, just so I can see how many people are uninterested.
Also, Denver would be fun, and I wouldn't mind finding a cheap hotel and figuring out transportation to the art museum and the local giant amusement park and stuff... (thanks for the idea, Velk)

1. Hell no, we won't go. I love the idea of it, but it's too expensive.
2. ;( Been there done that 3. Maybe! 4. I like the thought of this 5. If we went to LA, I would ditch you all for a few days to visit my sister and her bunny ;( 6. Eh.

Because people here are insane and refuse to give me a straight answer on whether I can go or not and keep changing their minds, may as well write a list!
1. Wouldn't be able to make it 2. Not interested ;| 3. "whatever" (possible but not really interested) 4. Not really that interested 5. Probably the most possible if any are at all 6. Possible

Interested in Chicago, and not particularly interested in anything else. Convenience is about the same for all the options, really.
That said, I'll probably go wherever it is. |

Northern California (Auburn, Sacramento, etc.) and the Bay Area is about all I can do.

I don't honestly know much about my options right now (bad, probably, but that's what I said last year, too) but I'll go to a place where I can combine the trip with some nature sightseeing. I think that means Chicago is out of the question for me. The other places... no idea. Friends say Seattle was the least fun US town they saw, but it's in Washington so that's cool. Yet, the more east-located, the cheaper it'd probably be.
1. Chicago - Probably more possible, but only slightly interested, unless someone knows a good way to combine this with some nature stuff. 2. Seattle - Less possible, but interested in general area (WA) 3. Portland, Ore - Less possible, but interested (mostly in general area). I could stalk Colin Meloy. 4. San Francisco/Santa Cruz, Calif. - Less possible, but interested. San Fransisco would be a rad place to visit. 5. Los Angeles/Orange County/I'd rather die from Marburg, Calif. - Less possible. AFAIK mostly vast urban landscapes, which doesn't much interest me 6. San Diego, Calif. - Same? 7. New York!!! - Highest probability and very interested!

If you come to San Diego, Frank, I know where we can go hiking.

Santa Cruz, beaches, hiking places, no prob. San Fran, beaches, not so sure about hiking places. San Diego, hiking, lovely landscape, beaches. Portland Ore. no idea, ask Unknown Rabbit aka Violet. Ashland Ore. is BEAUTIFUL though and I know hiking places there plus plenty of landscape. Other than that I have no idea. New York... not so good on landscapes but has the ocean so I guess that counts. Plus some good views form the Empire State Building. (been to most of these places so yeah.)

I REALLY want to go to Oregon but I would hope we could wait to next year. I got a C in Honors World History so I can't go this year but I was so close. Sorry guys, but if we could go next year I would be so happy. But don't change it just for me if everyone decides to go. That would just have to be something I do in the future.

I know I'm basically dead, but hey. It looks like wherever you end up this year, I will very likely be making a honest effort to be there, and since one place is as far as the next to me, whatever.

Well people, I'm sad to report that it looks like this year I won't be able to come. This summer I'm going to be at U.C. Berkeley as an intern in the computer science lab.
For what it's worth, if the convention is in California I could quite probably show up for a brief guest appearance. |
Apr 14, 2008, 07:13 AM | |
Well, I'm planning to stay in Berkeley, CA until August 15th, so unless the meeting is held in Berkeley or San Francisco, I definitely won't show up. Even if _C2008 occurs in the Bay Area, I still might not manage to show up. Good luck.
|
Apr 16, 2008, 10:22 PM | |
Considering the above two replies, it sounds like Berkeley could be a pretty happening place for a convention -- it's definitely different from San Jose and San Francisco, there are all kinds of things to walk around and see, good public transportation, etc.
|
Apr 29, 2008, 01:32 PM | |
If it's in San Francisco or Berkeley, I might be able to persuade my parents to let me go since it is so close to Santa Cruz. I have to try and pull off straight A's though if I even have a chance so wish me luck. It seems like the Bay Area is the best choice currently regarding where people will be and the convenience.
