Christmas contest idea
so I was looking around at the old jj2 website using wayback machine, and I saw that for Xmas one year, they did a contest where you would play holiday hare 95, and try to get the highest score, sooo, that would be a cool thing to replicate today, I mean come on! it's even Christmas time!

The bigger question would be trying to make sure they're legitimate. Cheating is far too easy. Getting the average joe to record their footage is not much of an easy task.
...this is why we need new macros. There's also that I think ties would be likely.

the original contest required the contestants to upload a screenshot of the summary screen
I see your point though. the images could still be photoshoped, but it would be a lot of work just to cheat on a high score contest. |

Maybe speedrunning JJ1 or JJ2 Holiday Hare games could be a better contest, with the requirement of video recording to prevent at least the obvious cheating.
All 3 Holiday Hare episodes are relatively short so that should encourage some non-speedrunners to at least give it a try.

Do save files contain any flag if you were using codes? If so, can you save in HH?
If both of these are true, you could just require players to do a save just before ending the level and upload it alongside. If getting them to record their gameplay is a hard task, getting them to use a hex editor to manipulate save file is probably even harder.

I think people on this forum are above cheating for a fun contest like this TBH. But if you're really concerned, you could say they have to take a picture of their screen with the summary up. Most people have a camera in their phone, so it shouldn't be too unreasonable, and it'd be much harder to photoshop without obvious signs of tampering.

Theres free recording software right? No shaky footage, and more concentration spent on actually playing the game itself. OBS is nice, I'd just need to make a short and brief tutorial. Also, not everyone has camera phones.

You can edit your post. And again;
Not everyone has camera phones. I don't. And honestly I'm not so concerned about photoshopping, and far more about cheat codes. Doctoring a screenshot would be quite a lot of effort.

I read all of the JJ1 cheats, and the only ones that would actually do anything that helps players cheat at a contest like this is an ammo cheat. and even that isn't really going to help at all.

I know about the print screen button. I've been using it for many years. I was responding to Robo as his solution for taking screenshots using a phone because they would be harder to doctor, when doctoring is barely the concern. Also yes, there was a misunderstanding about phone recording. But I've already stated my other points on that, which still apply whether it's video recording or not.
Also, the edit button! Use it. Seriously. It's on the bottom right of posts you make. I only double post when I need to bump a thread (i.e when there hasn't been a post in a long time).

Anyway... Treylina's idea is good. And it should be fairly easy to execute. Assuming there are no objections?

I guess it could work, i still think that cheating wont be that big of a problem, if were doing only HH 94 and 95 as i said earlier:
