Pingapalooza

I have an interesting bug on my servers. When I host without my firewall, it pings infinitely for many while others get great ping times, even people on the same ISP. When I turn ZoneAlarm on, many more people are blocked, but some still get through. It seems random. Any way to fix this? I am running Windows 98 FE with a cable modem.

What are your ZoneAlarm settings for JJ2?

This looks more like it could be a problem client-side. If the firewall is blocking JJ2 ports, then nobody will get through, and if it is not (or it is not running), then everyone is able to get through.

However, make sure you don't have any other firewalls (hardware or software), and make sure that ZoneAlarm is either set to allow full access (in and out) for JJ2, or set to allow incoming and outgoing packets on TCP ports 10052, 10053, 10054, and UDP ports 10052.

Zone Alarm or Zone Alarm Pro?

If it is Zone Alarm, you merely haven't given it send/recieve permission. Give it all green ticks.

If it is Zone Alarm Pro it gets more complicated.... mainly because I don't own ZAP.

I have no router. I have no network. All I have is a cable modem, but I had the same problem under 56K.

As for ZoneAlarm, it doesn't work even when it is off, and it is given full access to the net. And it's ZoneAlarm Free.
