Unhappy Playing JJ2 internet games behind an Alcatel SpeedTouch DSL Modem

Hi there!

I'm afraid I've got the same trouble everyone seems to be complaining about: I'm unable to play JJ2 internet games because of a "Connection timeout" error 30 seconds after joining the game. And I'm beginning to suspect there's no solution to my version of the whole thing...
Anyway, I'll describe my situation as extensively as possible below, and any help would be greatly appreciated; I'd love to play this cool game over the internet with some friends.
Thanks in advance!
One last note: I'm a networking newbie...

I'm connected to the internet via an Alcatel SpeedTouch 510 modem. It can connect multiple computers to a DSL line, and also provides stuff like routing and 'NA(P)T'.
My computer is a Windows XP Home system, with the firewall turned on.
In the LAN behind the SpeedTouch, the XP system's IP is 10.0.0.150 (found out via ipconfig.exe).
This is what I've done until now to try to solve my trouble, without success:
  • In the WinXP firewall config diag, 'Services' tab, I've added four items to open the 10052, 10053, 10054 tcp and 10052 udp ports. For all items, the 'host' was set to 10.0.0.150. The internal and external port numbers were set to forementioned numbers.
  • I temporarily took down the firewall completely, but that didn't help.
  • After this, I began to suspect the SpeedTouch was causing the trouble. I set up the NAT to forward all packages to 10.0.0.150. I also tried creating four items for the forementioned tcp/udp ports. To no avail...

I really think the whole NAT/NAPT thing is causing all the problems, but I can't take it down or so. I also haven't tried out other games yet, but I'm going to do that soon.
Maybe JJ2 is just too old in order to be able to cope with NAT???

JJ2 does work with most NAT solutions, but these Alcatel SpeedTouch modems seem to be giving people problems.

This thread might help you: http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showt...&threadid=8323

The problem seems to be with the modem itself, or at least its port forwarding capability. I would recommend contacting the manufacturer of the modem or your ISP and telling them what the problem is. They should know what you mean when you say "I need to forward ports for an online game".

If that doesn't help, try searching for other people who have the same problem or potential solutions (http://www.google.com is a good place to start).

I don't like to not be able further, but in these cases when it seems to be product-specific it is hard for anyone to give specific help unless they have experience with that product. You did everything you were supposed to (forwarding the ports correctly), so technically it should work.

Okay, thanks for your reply. At least I seem to have done the right things...
I'll try contacting my ISP and/or Alcatel, and I'll let you guys know if I find anything...
