Question Sprites can they be changed?

I'm interested in making custom levels for JJ2, however, before I start anything I want to know if the sprites can be changed. Does anyone know if this can be done?

Thanks,

Can't be done without the source code. Or some utility Arjan or Michiel wrote.

True. But those programs most likely will never be released.

The only way to change sprites with the tools we have now is changing their colors via palette editing.

You could also attempt the slow and arduous task of looking for them with a Hex editor ans changing them manually, but it would not be ideal. I don't suggest it, and I'm not going to help anyone figure out how (too much work).

You can make new tilesets, if that's what you're asking... but, they're not exactly sprites. You can put whatever you want in them, all though you can't interact with the stuff beyond what the JJ2 engine is all ready capable of doing; for example, someone out there invented the idea of vertically moving vines in hotel tilesets, which, all though wasn't a new object with new sprites and new engine capabilities, was a new idea and all most like sprites. That's probably not what you're asking, though.

It would have been Keen.

No, however I appreciate the sentiment.

I'm a Commander Keen fan, I just wanted to make a Keen sprite and put him in there. More or less my plan was to make a complete conversion to the Keen universe. I can still do all the locations from the Keen universe though. Depending on how well one level turns out I may make more.

Thanks again, bye.

Keen! That would be ultra-1337, too bad the differences in Ken's and JJ2's gameplay are quite big. Anyway, maybe you'll be able to solve those problems.

What a coincidence. Labrat, haven't you uploaded Keen tilesets?

You can always put in an animated tile of good ol' Billy Blaze hanging out in the background. You just can't turn Jazz into Keen or replace the badguys
