Violence
A debate that me and others had, has brought me to the conclusion to just make a poll, and see what people think. What's more violent overall in all aspects of the gameplay, JJ1 or JJ2?

JJ1. The red explosion things looked a lot like blood. And, like (was it you?) said, the part where he turns to dust is kind of scaryish.

Neither game is very violent in the graphic sense, but I suppose if I were to choose, I'd say JJ1.

JJ2! In JJ1, the enemies just exploded, while in JJ2 they break into tiny pieces or burn with ashes. On satan's winter level using his Cartoon Tileset (forgot the level's name) there was a trick with background layers used, that made Floating Suckers look like they were splashing into blood. Hidden, yet possible, thus making JJ2 even more evil.

JAZZ BREAKS GENEVA CONVENTION! BOO! HOW CAN JJ2 BE LESS VIOLENT AND DISTURBING THAN JJ1?
Also, the Jazz2 "eyes" look much more meaty and bloody than in JJ1. They are animated, unlike in JJ1, and it looks like they've been ripped straight out of a poor rabbit's head. ![]() JJ2 also takes place in Hell and there's a swear word in two of its tilesets! There are loads of bones, skeletons, fire, lava, etc and thanks to higher detail and resolution, JJ2 shows its E-rated violence in all its gory glory! Can I also mention the fact that there is ambient lightning in JJ2, which, when turned to 0, could scare younger players? ![]() JJ2 also features BIGGER weapons (seekers, improved RFs, TNTs and toaster), BIGGER explosisons (TNT, RFs, seekers... even blaster makes better-looking explosions when it hits an enemy) and the ability to ROAST your fellow rabbits in MP. The JJ2 deaths are more spectacular than the ones of JJ1 and there are loads of different ways you can kill of baddies. |

I'm a concerned parent and I think Jazz Jackrabbit is too violent for my 17 year old. I have written a letter to Epic Games complaining about the explosions and the fact that Jazz has a gun in the first place. I think Jazz should try to reason with the Tortoises without violence. He should just talk out the problems he has with them. So take out the gun, the butt-stomp, and any other "special" moves. I busted my 17 year old playing it several times with his friends. This is getting out of hand! He had nightmares for months and I had to sing him lullabies. I freaked out when he said the word "gun" one day. I know this game has corrupted my sweet little Andy.
--oversensitive people ++violence I think Epic needs to take it up another notch with the next Jazz Jackrabbit. The next game should be rated "T" at least. We need a real plot that involves non-bloody violence.

So you want the game to head into a direction like Jak & Daxter? I see what you are getting at, and that would probably be a good idea, but I can't imagine it happening, it would have to take the kindof 180 degree turn that J&D did.
One enemy that scared me a lot in Jazz 1, was the evil eyes from Tubelectric, they look like little babies in JJ2.

--violence
Eh. None of the games really were violent. JJ1 did have those tiny, helpless little baby turtles, though... I always avoided shooting them. But the only time I really thought any of the games were violent was the intro to JJ2. ...I mean, you actually hear that one turtle scream and all.

Do Turtlettes even give you points when you shoot them? I've never noticed a major score difference whether I killed them or not.

For the most part, the violence the games have is portrayed in an extremely cartoony way. The violence in the actual gameplay isn't anything you won't see in any sidescrolling game. (Even the KIRBY games had some enemies leave behind corpses after they were defeated) The cutscene violence is pretty cartoonish as well. Jazz detonating TNT in a turtle's shell and Devan getting crushed by a giant piece of rock is pretty much the extent of it, and it's really nothing that you won't find in Looney Tunes and such.

I think Turtlettes were added just to make it hard to shoot the real enemies walking toward you. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to shoot an enemy and a Turtlette got in the way and I ended up running into the enemy I was trying to hit.
