Internet Explorer is the best, and also useless. Basically a contradiction. So therefore, It's ok. Get the Google Toolbar, for best security in IE, imo.

That is going into my sig.

Also, you're welcome Radium.

Anyways, I highly recommend Firefox. You can add new features to it (like an FTP client, a Google search bar for Firefox, and much more) easily, and since Firefox is open source, there'll be many more plugins for it to come.

Also, just so you know, the latest version is 1.0, not 1.0PR.

TheFastOne, are you sure you want to trust a browser with known security holes and phishing vulnerabilities?

Yep, firefox has some holes in it as well. What's more amusing is that one that was discovered was in IE as well

Edit: for the record, I use IE and run scans with spybot every so often. No malware yet!

Firefox 1.0, to the best of my knowledge, has very few security holes.

Besides, if you're responsible enough, you won't be hit. Most things are common sense.

Also, another thing worthy of noting:

Number of times IE has crashed on me throughout my entire use of it (1995-1004): A really large amount, pretty uncountable

Number of times Firefox has crashed on me: 2.

Large Number > 2 = FIREFOX WINS.

Lastly, all the problems i've ever had with spyware were tied in with IE somehow. I've never had a browser hijack, pop-up scare, virus, trojan horse, worm, or any other type of malware using Firefox. In fact, I trust it so much that it would be the default browser, but Dad somehow loves IE. Boo.

Then why say IE is bad because of it's security holes?

Maybe because you have used IE longer than FireFox?

Duh. Sypware authors obviously target the most used product which is in this case IE.

That could be it. Still, Firefox seems to have a much smaller crash ratio than IE.

Oh, snap.

Besides, I like Firefox a lot more than IE mostly because of full PNG support and the tabs.

You people really need to give up with your really useless quotes. The only good quote is the one Flash has in his sig.

Netscape makes Mozilla, and there is a few differences that separate Mozilla and the Firefox, according to some tech support peeps that I was talking to earlier.

Of course there'd be a difference. Why bother publishing the same thing under two names?

Derivative, Netscape once released the Gecko engine which has been edited by the Mozilla team and used for Mozilla and Firefox. Netscape is not actively working on Mozilla or Firefox afaik.

Also, another thing is that you can force Firefox to pipeline, or make multiple connections to a server, to make browsing faster.

I'll allow you to find the instructions to do so yourself. Scavenger hunts are fun.

IIRC the HTTP 1.1 spec restricts clients to a maximum of 2 connections per server (I think it's 4 for HTTP 1.0, as that one didn't have keep-alive connections). So remember that if you do force it to make more than 2 connections (which you can do in IE too with a little registry magic), you're breaking the spec and there are servers and admins out there that won't thank you for doing so. Plus on low-bandwidth connections (dialup, ISDN, lo-spec DSL), the extra overhead from more connections will eat into whatever small performance increase you might have got. They did some tests and it turned out more efficient to reuse the same connection than to make multiple simultaneous ones, assuming ideal network conditions. YMMV of course.

Also, I find that my browser runs slightly faster with the pipelining. Could be my setup, though.

Either use "Edit - Find in this page" or set the search box in the upper right corner to find in this page. It's easy.

You might want to try Opera. It has a mail function, and is a very reliable browser. It's very easy to search in, and on the topic of searching (although not exactly related), it has a built in Amazon, Google, and Ebay search, along with others.
