Derby: URL removal. Do not post links to website that allow people to illegally acquire content. This has resulted in a full warning. Three are normally needed for a temporary ban.

Derby: Content removal. The content alluded to previously removed content and was thus removed.

It's NOT illegal. JJ2 - The Secret Files has been discontinued.

Ok, a little clarification here: Technically, every piece of software is *illegal* to distribute other than by the manufacturer, unless the manufacturer has given permission for copying and distribution. Sounds hard no? Then let me give some examples of when it's perfectly legal:
- Demos and shareware versions are perfectly legal to copy, not because they're "stripped down" versions of the full game, but because these versions use the "Try Before You Buy" principle. Consider them free samples you see in the supermarket every once in a while ![]() - Freeware games. Only the manufacturer can declare a game freeware, nobody else. One Must Fall 2097 has been declared freeware (almost 5 years ago, yet it's still being sold on Epic Classics, how odd), but not any of the full Jazz Jackrabbit games. Just because a game is "discontinued" doesn't mean it's freeware, it has to be declared freeware by Epic Games first. And we know that will never happen ![]() That's the basic rundown. By the way, why is this in the "Future of Jazz" forum? Shouldn't it have been moved by now, especially after a visit from Derby? - JelZe GoldRabbit =:3 |

Sorry about that. The site I got it from told me it was legal. Hmmm...

Actually, distributing old DOS games like that *snaps fingers* doesn't have that many consequences for the companies, other than annihilating a possible re-release of the games (yeah, like that will ever happen for the PC platform

HH98 and CC99 keep being rereleased every now and then.

Hmm, looks like (it) is in trouble.
If distributing Jazz:TSF for free is still illegal, then someone needs to drop them a line. (I won't post a link) Derby: Content clearance. Avoid referring to sites that permit the acquisition of grey-area content.

I think (it) knows perfectly that they're doing grey-area illegal stuff (please no debate about whether it's grey-area now).
Derby: Content replacement. Avoid referring to sites that permit the acquisition of grey-area content. Last edited by Derby; Jan 26, 2005 at 07:55 PM. |
