So what's the current state of level-design?
I've kinda stopped playing since I got a Linux computer and all. But apparently it's not hard to get JJ2 running with Wine, so that shouldn't be a problem anymore. Well, of course, I left my CD at home. Hur hur.
But anyway, I've recently been feeling like designing some levels. Like, another remake of my old SCE thingy. Because remakes are awesome? So, I remember reading about some big innovation concerning editing sprites in the game and stuff. What happened to that? Did it ever take off? Are edited sprites all the rage now? What's the best example of the use of these in a level pack? Or... did it all just kinda die? If my will to build levels remains until I get my hands on the game again, I'll want to know whether it's worth it putting effort into creating my own events...

It is possible to edit anims.j2a to fit our specifications, yes, with the one major flaw (as I recall) being the inability to change the number of frames in an animation. You could definitely have a custom sprite set for an episode or something - FSP2 did/will - it just hasn't been done yet, perhaps because there hasn't been much of a need for it. It's hard to justify a whole new anims.j2a for anything less than a big episode or other project, and not many have been released, so it's totally unexplored ground. You could probably win hearts just with recolors.

AFAIK, that sprite editing never got off the ground. I can only think of one reason why: the one who downloads the level also has to download the animation library with the edited sprites...

Things haven't really changed much at all. It's kind of disappointing, really. ;p |
