What's with the 3 KB file size limit on the avatars. It makes our high quality stuff look blurry and undetailed. Terribly so.

I do agree 3KB is a little ridiculous, but for some advice I may recommend trying to save your avatar in the PNG format, which is usually smaller than JPEG avatars. JPEGs are usually only better for larger images that use a lot of colours (like photographs and pictures with several gradients).

Did you know given the quality of the image, PNG compression of this extremely high quality image to something below 3.0 KB is absolutely impossible?

I resized it and converted to gif without any visible quality drop, 2.2 kB in size. This picture simply doesn't look as good when shrunken though.

And here's one too. And as SE said, it's matter of the resolution, not the size.

Agreed. I quite like the fractal details in the large picture.

Really, Stijn, it'd be so much easier to raise the file size limit on avatars to even 10 KB.

I also probably should have known saying something's impossible would jolt the members of JCF into action.

It doesn't do any visible difference whether it would be 4KBor 400KB as long as it's 48x48. You should probably complain about that instead

Yeah, the limit is kind of low, and it would make sense to change it. When/if I get around to it, I will do so.
