Several issues and improvements for race 6.2
Relooking at the race changes at 6.2 again, and preferable features from race.mut. I have a few things up for discussion:
Bugs: - Spectating on and off during a race does not reset your timer. It should. - Spectating off during a race preview (does not matter if it's a plusracereview) it gives a black screen. Stays on forever until the game is started and the pgtimelimit ended. Sometimes this unspeccing before the game starts also causes player to start from position 0,0. - Chat box and preview speed slider clip each other. Make the slider centred above the text box so that this doesn't happen. - Last player to finish does not get the gold name. This is especially visible when /autocycle is off and /autostop is used. - After game finished it shows the total time on the scoreboard, but this clips into the network ms number and text. Suggestion below. - Last player gets a "Finished" camera pointed somewhere on the map, usually the start (predetermined by each map), without free view mouse movement. Other players get to spectate racers and get moved to a free spectating view. Why the inconcistency here? Suggestion: make all spectators move to a "Game Finished" screen like the last finisher, but point the camera position on the end lap warp, so for everyone spectating the last player, including the last players own race, it ends the camera in lap end position, without any camera jank. Add potentional ending scoreboard here similar to how countless scripted SP packs do it, and remove total time that clips with networking ms from the scoreboard. This makes the most sense as a race end screen when /autocycle is off. Improvements: - Current position, lap time and lap should be visible from looking in one position in the top left corner like race.mut, aswell as your individual lap times. You don't want to look in the top right especially, as there is also the in-game timer which can be confusing. That corner should just not be used for racing modes whatsoever. - Apparently I never knew this but in vanilla racing you can only knock enemy players or ice them, not hurt them. This is not how we played race for the last 20+ years in treasure and battle where hurting was the norm. In a more competitive race it is also necessary to be able to remove player collisions to race through tight spaces. I think it should work on default like race.mut at this point, with the option to turn it "vanilla". - ability to customize the minimap color
