Now that I finally have mIRC working on my computer, I can come to harass the channel any time I want?

Um, just a casual question, though. Is there any point during the day when the population of #jj2 drops dramatically? I'm in the southeastern corner of Canada, and more than once it has inconvenienced me before. So I'm just checking beforehand this time.

The most popular times are the afternoon times in Europe (particularly Dutchieland), and afternoon times in the US and Canada, and late night there is a fair number of people sleep baked.

So 12 pm EST to 4 am EST you should be able to find plenty of people. Getting online late helps.

And yes, you can visit any channel except secret/private channels.

I still visit mIRC sometimes. I admit, chat applications like #jj2 are much more inviting now-a-days, but it's the sentimental value of mIRC that counts, right?

I'm surprised that you managed to use the correct case for the chat application, mIRC, yet failed to realise it is a chat application rather than a network or channel.

What are you talking about? Quakenet is a server on the chat application mIRC. Correct case, what do you mean? It's not that hard to make a chat channel for mIRC.

Mind you, chat channel for IRC. mIRC is only one of the so many clients to connect to IRC.

If you are planning on joining a JJ2 based channel, join the quakenet network through port 6667 and enter the channel #jj2

Or just join the Quakenet which is closest to you from the serverlist. Let me warn you PsyAsh, if you're looking for JJ2 conversation #jj2 isn't what you want. Also join #jcstalk for JCS information. And of course #jazz2world for Jazz2 and other topics.

First of all, IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. mIRC is a client to connect to IRC servers, but there are many other clients available. Quakenet is an IRC server, but you make it sound like some subsidiary server related to mIRC.

Calling Quakenet an "mIRC Server" is like calling Jazz2Online an "Internet Explorer Server", to put it simply.

You think so? Well it seems like i'm the only one these days who talks about JJ related discussions. Oh and if you feel that the channel should be multi-topic. Then stop naming the channel #jj2.

Oh and Spaztic don't expect everyone to be good at mIRC. I try to understand, but it's confusing.

how would you name the channel then? when #jj2 was made it was mostly just to talk about JJ2 i think, but things change you cant talk 24/7 about JJ2 only

#jj2 isn't for purely Jazz2-related discussion, it's an IRC channel for the community, not the game. Since the jj2 community dwells there, there are discussions about the game. You can't talk about one thing constantly. It doesn't happen on ANY channel unless rules are strictly enforced to make it so. And you know what? Those channels aren't fun to be in.

Look at the JCF. There are 152,238 posts as I type this, and 98,646 of those are in the 4 forums that don't have to do with Jazz2 at all. That's about 65%. Even this very board talks more about other stuff than Jazz2. You know why? Because it's called Jazz Jackrabbit Community Forums. It's a forum for the community surrounding the game, not just for the game, which is exactly like #jj2.

Moreover, I don't expect you to be good at IRC unless you plan on starting and governing your own channel. If you want to undertake that responsibility you should at least know your way around IRC itself and more specifically the way QuakeNet works. It's for your own benefit, really. But do what you want. Your channel, you will see, won't talk just about jj2. I understand your reasons behind this whole venture but all you're doing is putting a wedge in the community.
