In most cases, actually. Although it's part of photography, you're better off saving as a PNG. They aren't that much bigger and more crisp/clear. Sorry, getting rather off topic here.

it's not like a significant number of people is still on 56k dial-up

pretty much the same reason why plus downloads music for levels, I suppose

Honestly, plus downloads so slowly that if there's an .mp3, I'm just not going to bother. Same goes for especially large modules.

It appears at least one person doesn't know this so here goes: JJ2 can't crash by loading an MP3 music file (or whatever other format) if that file isn't there to load. So you can play a level that uses song.mp3 in unpatched JJ2 as long as your JJ2 folder doesn't contain song.mp3.

but come on guys mods are so much cooler

Please stay focused on the topic guys. This is a thread where people should discuss bash 14, not discuss about music format. Anyway, I made up a quick list of battle levels, so it's time to show the first unofficial battle list for the bash.

Unofficial bash 14 list

Battle
1. Doomed Citadel by CelL
2. Scorpio key by Violet CLM
3. Moonlit harbor by Ragnarok
4. The impossible Metropolis by cooba
5. Tidal towers by Darksonic
6. Fall era by Firesword
7. Rural mountains by Thunderwalker
8. Eye of the storm by OLC
9. There's mithril in them hills! by Quickz
10. Exit Sandland by Olsen
11. Officials vs. Competitors #20 By cooba
12. Atlantis Cathedral by Loon
13. Alienation: Abridged by Blackraptor and cooba
14. Peculair purple peak by Ragnarok
15. Battle1OS by Firesword
16. First strike by BlurredD

If there are any objections against the current list, i expect to hear them. Same goes for if you think levels are missing.

Looking good so far, though I wouldn't put Doomed Citadel as #1 because it won't work well at the very start of the Bash with about 5 people running about. Also, FS wanted Fall Era to be the last level in olcbat2, maybe you can put it as the last item in the list?

And have another level to consider: http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads...firestorm-bay/

Perhaps swap PPP and the Citadel? Since PPP is a duel-sized battle, it might do good at start.

Please swap OvC with Doomed Citadel.

Also, Cooba's suggestions are good.

As I have a 24/7 server and experience with dedicated hosting, I wonder if I can host the bash this year?

My server has a LevelList editor where admins can edit the levellist, add/remove levels and see info about the files.

Bash 14 should start on the 6th of april imo. It's earlier than the 9th, but it's near a weekend. The alternatives are either to start on the 9th or the weekend afterwards, unless someone has any other ideas.

What do you guys think of having some sort of pre-bash? - That is, hosting all of the obtainable bash packs in order from earliest to latest.

I think that could be fun, so long as a) it doesn't last too long (maybe 24 hours tops?) so as not to dilute the excitement of the bash itself, and b) the new bash doesn't repeat too many levels from the old bashes.

Do you have a sense of when "very likely" will turn into a series of definite dates for the server/s involved, so that announcements can be made?

Apparently, Fawful missed the point of my blatantly obvious attempt at self-promotion for my Death Star CTF level, so let me make myself a little clearer.

HEY, FAWFUL, COULD YOU PLEASE USE MY Death Star CTF LEVEL IN THE BASH?

HINT. HINT. HINT. HINT. HINT.

Thank you. I'll get down off of my soapbox now.

Djazz will host the event.

AB14 will start on the 6th of April and will last for 4 days. I don't have any more specific details yet.

Congratulations to all the levels that made it into the Bash! They're all good, and I know everyone'll have some serious fun on them.

Maybe next time, my level will be lucky enough to make it into the Bash.

Nothing from the SS3 contest is in the bash though, (that's why no heat shrine either). the size of these levels are simply too small and chaotic for a bash event.

Anyway, i think bash is going great. Yesterday there were a lot of people in the server. Keep it up .

Something's wrong... the server seems to have switched to the CTF levels, even though we're still about 18 hours away from the halfway point.

Bash didn't have many people period. Most of the times I checked there were like three or four people in there, while Zeal Duels or whatever had around ten. Very dissapointing, and not much fun, I might add.

The list was very good and DJazz's server was good but the attendance was terrible. If this continues we may as well stop doing Bashes altogether.
