Yes, I've been always tought that JJ2 is a cheap-(-) rip-off of Jazz Jackrabbit by Epic Megagames. They even used the same design, for the main character, not mentoing the similarity in the games' titles.

Originally, he had none. He stole eyes from someone else.

Ms. Pacman was the first victim of this stealing frenzy.

Hate to revive a thread because I know theres people who would sic on me, regardless of the fact I have a legitimate reason to revive a thread.

The following music is from Gex 1 (circa 1995). At 38 seconds, the laugh or whatever used for Devan can be heard.

It's perfectly possible that both tunes just licensed the same sample. Just like one of the cheering samples from RollerCoaster Tycoon can be heard in the Mission: Impossible movie.

Sound effects tend to be pulled from stock sources. I've heard an alarm sample in a recent episode of Doctor Who that I'm pretty sure was the same as one in an RTS from 1997. If you pay enough attention, you'll notice that some things in movies don't just sound the same because it's a similar event, but because it's actually the same sample being used.

JJ Springs = Sonic springs
JJ sucker tubes = Sonic tubes from chemical plant zone
JJ idea from super fast rabbit = Sonic The Hedgehog, a super fast hedgehog
Spaz = Tails (Well... Nearly!)
Lori = Amy (...Yeah)
Devan = Eggman

And indeed, chemical plant zone is much like JJ tubelectric. I could list more things if I would remember them...

Oh man, hasn't anyone ever noticed this obvious little thing? I mean, there are people around who have lived in the early 90's, you should know this if you ever owned a NES.

I've always thought of Jazz as a crossover between Bucky and Sonic. That was an amazingly difficult game, I still haven't beaten it. The TV series is also neat.

I thought it was common knowledge that Jazz the rabbit's early character design was slightly based of Bucky?
Jazz the game's gunplay could come from anything in particular, since Bucky on the NES was pretty much Megaman with a rabbit.
So really, while we can say the Jazz himself is based of Bucky, Jazz Jackrabbit the game could have been influenced from any number of sources, the most direct one being Sonic.

Finally, before anyone brings this up, Jazz and Bucky are in no way related. There's cannon from each series that make a family theory impossible.

Bucky looking like Jazz isn't the only thing in that picture. A carrotus-like tileset, is, too.

Carrotus was already shown to be directly based off a tileset from the Lion King game, plus it's really stretching it to call the Bucky screenshot "Carrotus-like".

Mario 3 has a level with green grass and brown soil/rocks! IT'S CARROTUS-LIKE!!!!!

And by the way, didn't Sega take "inspiration" for Ice Cap Zone from Nippius?

No, Sonic 3 was in production before Jazz came out. Since Ice Cap Zone was included in Sonic 3 and not Sonic & Knuckles, it would've been one of the first zones put into the game. Also, the poles in Jazz 2 were probably inspired by those in Sonic & Knuckles' Mushroom Hill Zone. Since the game was released a few months after Jazz 1, they never got to consider the idea for Jazz 1.

Still, SEGA was a pretty big company back then, and Epic was a fairly unknown American company in comparison, so probably not.

You've got to admit; the storylines for Bucky O'Hare and JazzJackrabbit are awfully simalar.

Both I imagine, get annoyed at people calling them 'rabbits'
