Do you play in 16-bit? If you do switch to 8-bit because that really speeds up the gameplay. If that doesn't work try to lower some options like detail.

Are they using RF or Toaster? That, along with them still downloading the level being hosted, slows you down.

Does it happen everywhere or just in specific levels?

Have you tried more than two players on a local split-screen game?

Judging the expected performance from the specifications you gave, and the actual output you told us about, there are two factors to this problem. One happens to be the servers you connect to (if they are incredibly slow with uploading, you will never get optimal graphical performance in the longrun because the effort is being placed upon data transfers), and your video card drivers. The latter is a far more pressing factor. You have a video card from NVidia. Updating your video card's drivers can go either way, however. In the GeForce2 era, there were several faults at hand with the "WHQL" standard drivers being introduced. Depending on what card you have, the latest WHQL certified drivers may or may not work for you. You should first try the latest drivers available for your video card. If those drivers do not help with graphical performance with PCI, then you should rollback to the drivers that correspond with your video card. These are often the drivers that came with the video card. As for Windows ME, it is not the deciding factor for the loss of performance that you are suffering. The problems may be associated with new running processes, though. Remember to remove any adware (with a program known as Ad-aware, which can be found at www.download.com) and find any running processes that may be presenting a conflict to the game. I have had all of these operating systems in line, and none of them had any effect on the performance of the game. Simply update your video card drivers and see if they work. If they do not, roll back to your factory-preset drivers (your earliest drivers) or the drivers that correspond to the video card in NVidia's driver archive. Good luck.

No problem.

Since you have an ample amount of RAM, there is no reason to close ZoneAlarm and Norton; they can only help you. However, it is still possible that ZoneAlarm may be blocking packets of information from the ports that JJ2 uses. You might want to test JJ2 out with ZoneAlarm disabled and see if your performance increases. If it increases by a large margin with online play, you should check the port settings for ZoneAlarm to see if JJ2's ports (10052-10054, maybe up to 10057) are blocked. If they are, unblock them if you want to play JJ2. If you see no significant increase in performance, feel free to keep it on in the background. Norton is nice to have, too. Make sure you keep updating the virus definitions, though. New viruses pop up rather quickly.
