Jazz Jackrabbit 2 ending in 1440p (1920x1440) resolution

Long time no see! I wanna introduce everyone my new work, this time I decided to upscale the ending clip from Jazz Jackrabbit 2

Software: ESRGAN (Model: Digital Frames, 2.1 Final), Adobe Premiere Pro CC
I previously described how I remastered the opening clip from the game in this topic: https://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showthread.php?t=20327
The upscaling process itself remained the same, with an exception that this time I used ESRGAN for enhancing the resolution of the video clip frame by frame. As always, enjoy watching

To be brutally honest, it looks a bit crap.

It's not actually upscaled the underlying picture to look like it was drawn at a higher resolution, it's just smoothed out the pixels a bit. It still looks very pixelated, but also looks blurry and smudged.

AI upscaling can be very inconsistent, and it's very easy to give a terrible, smudgy image. I think you need to refine your settings. I'm not sure how, though.

Thanks for your message. Personally, I don't think it looks a bit crap, since it's still a significant improvement over the original to some extent, but I undesrtand your complaints. Unfortunatly, all this happened mostly due to the original source. Since it was animated on an old animation software from the mid 90s, some visual issues couldn't be fixed at all, like pixelated outlines on the 2D characters. I also used several options, the process was carried out with Topaz A.I. Gigapixel, Waifu2x and ESRGAN (specialy for this neural network I took the most suitable model, Digital Frames 2.1, Final). So far, only ESRGAN managed to upscale it more-or-less properly. You can compare the results for yourself here:

Waifu2x: https://i.imgur.com/VDb4qZh.png

I chose the best settings possible, and so far, it's impossible to make anything better. But, I hope I'm wrong and there will be a better option.
