Hello, I started playing this game in 2005 but never played online. I finished the entire champaign on hard. I am a teenager and I started playing online in 2013. I finally found this forum so allow me to introduce my self. I am L853RCHU and I am a amateur at Jazz 2. I enjoy race car games and Jazz Jackrabbit 2. I do programming as well.

Hey everybody! I used to post here years and years ago under the name "Dino" (which appears to be taken now) as well as on the old JMMB, somewhere around the late 90's/early '00s. I was the project lead on an unreleased game called Possum and a pretty active member of the JJ2 community in general.

I'm here again out of curiosity/nostalgia, and I'm pretty impressed that this place has stood the test of time. If any of you guys have any lingering questions about Possum, what I'm doing now, etc. feel free to ask me!

Semi-proof, here's a picture I just took of my old Skitch Possum mug:

Daaaaaaaaang, Possum, that takes me back. I remember being so excited about it and then nothing happened Any chance of resources like the tilesets being released? They might make for some nice JJ2 tilesets...

I was excited about it too. The project fizzled because we were all so extremely young and inexperienced. Making the design come to life, especially back then, was a challenge, and eventually we all lost interest and fell out of contact. It was definitely a learning experience!

To answer your question, we had two working tilesets. One was purely geometric and just for testing purposes, and the other was a full set created by Gizmo/Purplesheep for a level called Sonic Winter. There's a chance I still have it on an old hard drive somewhere, but I can't make any guarantees. Apart from that, we had very few finished art assets.

Am I the only one who thinks "duh, you took it back then" when reading this?

When is Dino Trigger 2 coming out? =d

For more nostalgia, try this: http://www.jazz2online.com/j2c

Also, I am probably getting way ahead of myself, but let me be the first to invite you to AB16, which is next year in April. I was thinking of trying to personally contact several people from the old days, and you have now saved me the trouble! I was thinking there would be some set meeting times so we don't all miss each other. Anyway, PM me with some contact info if you want me to send you details closer to the event. I promise not to be spammy.

Dino Trigger! I know the first DT is out there in the dark recesses of the internet. It was my attempt at learning RPG Maker 2000. I'm not familiar with AB16, is that a con? I rarely make it out to those although I appreciate the invite!

There are three screenshots of it here. There was at least one other shot, taken in PossumEDIT (or APPLE, not sure which at the time), but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

Haha wow, I haven't seen those shots in a long time. I remember the level concepts kind of followed that old platformer trope -- desert level, water level, volcano level, etc. But there was going to be a narrative linking them all and I actually had a lot of it written out. I was maybe 15 years old though, so it's not like it was any good! I know I would probably take Possum in a totally different direction if I had started working on it today.

It is! In fact, it's in the downloads section of J2C, linked in my last post.

No travel required. I mean JJ2's Anniversary Bash 16. Just show up and play for an hour or so, and see people you haven't seen in years. That's the theory anyway.

This topic either didn't exist in my two waves of activity on here (in 2003/2004 and 2009) or I was totally oblivious to it?

Either way, pretty sure that back then the board was not showing our age. Somebody told me I was the oldest person on here and I felt stupid about it, being an university student who plays a "children's game", as some of my preppy fellow students were suggesting. Now that I can see that there were people born in 1980-1983 as well. I wish I was wiser back then...

I don't think we've ever had someone from Eastern Asia on this board... And if we did, it must've been a long time ago. It's exciting to meet you!

I've been from Malaysia this entire time

Also I recall having dug up from the archives someone who was from the Eastern Asian area some years back, but I can't remember his name.

JJ2 and this community came a long way. Instead of hoping for the source code to be released, a lot of JJ2's internals have been found out by other methods, and as a result JJ2+ was born!

So by all means, today will be a good day to enjoy a whole new experience of JJ2!

I’m Dave, just joined today, and I’m here to catch up.
I used to play Jazz2 online almost every night, around 1998-2000, maybe a little longer than that. I was called Neo, sometimes Neo[AS], sometimes Neo[AT], obviously depending on the clan. I was part of GPW at one point too I think.
Some of the people who played around that time, that I remember, were:
Ryu, HipChick, BizkitGirl, Koln, ShadowGPW and UrbsGPW

The name Violet also sounds familiar… not sure though.
There were more, but I’ve forgotten most of them, even though it was a fantastic community and we all got along great. It has been over a decade after all

I see ShadowGPW is still around on the forums here. How are you, man? Do you remember me, or any of those other players? Is anyone else from the old days still around?

Glad to see you all here keeping the Jazz2 community alive. I still have very fond memories, and it’s by far the best online community I was ever a part of.

I'm more of looking for people who would test my upcoming levels. I doubt it'd be suited to post in the thread you linked and that's why I thought I'd make a separate one for it.

There is a thread for Review Exchanges, but that's mostly intended for reviewing each others finished levels. For beta tests, making a thread for yourself wouldn't be a problem, or just ask around anyplace there are JJ2 players.

Welcome to the community btw, Farkas!
