What, the evil gray Jazz? I just tend to call him "Dark Jazz", although the level editor for JJ1 called him something very different.

Well, that's my picture you've edited and I call him Dark Jazz as well (used to do it without a space, like this: 'DarkJazz', to make it sound more like a scientific project name). I'm kind of the chief of any interest in this boss character, working on a fan comic centered around him and all, so I guess you can just go with it, seeing as the original creators don't seem to care much. Your edit and the paper picture are pretty cool, by the way.

As far as I remember it's just text, anyway - imgur doesn't care about that.

Alright, I'll take your word for it; I've replaced the old one. Still, I'm pretty annoyed with the compression. :L Next time I upload something, I'll remember to use a high quality JPEG rather than a PNG.

Since it's way harder (for me) to draw using a mouse, i would say this is preety good work for an amateur like me :P

I don't recommend imgur. I can see JPEG artefacts which looks ugly on images with low colours (even if it's uploaded as a png, theres some stupid compression system on imgur). I recommend imagesup.net for now. (I recently realised the site I used to recommend has a shady reputation and is NSFW but didn't see them because of adblock. Oh.)

I drew my Jazz head with a mouse entirely. Scanning is tedious because of the resizing required, and I gave up using my graphics tablet long ago and I'm not sure when I'll go back because mine is really unresponsive right now (also I should really get the drivers too instead of default ones). I find the best way to draw with a mouse is to use the zoom tool a lot, and use clean, round and confident lines (you may need the undo function a lot).

A sketch layer may help you to get the proportions better. That's also what I started off with in my Jazz pic. This is why I don't recommend MSpaint, as it lacks layers. Also theres no crazy fur (idk what other way to put it) on the red part.

That's also a terrible mentality. Terrible is a strong word to use. If you think in black and white, you're not going to get very far.

What's in between terrible and perfect? Many things; Very bad, Bad, mediocre, decent, good and great.

The important thing isn't about being as perfect as possible, but seeing and creating progress. Likewise, if someone completely copies official art (aka 50% of deviantart submissions) it may look "perfect" because it "looks the same way as a certain character", but did they really learn how to create good art? Likely not.

I find copied/traced artwork incredibly boring.

If I don't like how my art comes out, I'm not going to be like "UGH THIS IS TERRIBLE" but "What makes it look off, what can I do to improve it and what looks good about it?". I may be an ass at times, though I'm not one of those toxic pessimists, who encourages others to give up, simply because they came out with poor results.

I've also seen several attempts of stylised fanart, and it can look really good, sometimes even better than the official style (though more often than not I think it's just different). I stylise my fanart a little out of preference as I'm not a big fan of fisheye expressions and eyes overlapping.

But I don't think that saying lying about what they think of their own art is a good thing to say either. As everyone has their own preferences and standards.
