Leave the cavern and try looking through the orb in daylight.

Nobody knows what the orb does. You look at the sun, shine the light, look at the carvings, and only see their outlines also. After determining one-ball juggling isn't fun, you return to the pedistal. Violet, I thought you'd be staring at Araches's clothes through the crystal until she noticed she could see the insides of your eyes.

You know the passage contains the save point (haven't been there in a while) and Orb, because you just went down it a while ago.
