Well, sure youâve seen the JJ1 songs. Did someone transcribe them?? NO!⊠this is how.
Usually, if you play PSMs directly through JJ2, you will get an error because it is an âunsupported music typeâ, and in Winamp youâll just get silence. Now, these are actually .s3m files that have been secretly switched. Open them in ModPlug Tracker (which is availible at www.modplug.com, Trafton plz correct me if Iâm wrong) and voil apostrophe a! âFormat: Screamtracker 3â. You can play them back and extract data from them :-).
Now, these S3Ms have been extracted and are ready for playing in any modplayer ;-)

Actually, ModPlug can play PSM files (after youâve registered the extensions), but itâs just buggy: skipping, off-tempo, wrong samplesâŠ
A better tool is this: a Cronos Module Converter. Itâs in DOS-Style, and does the work just fine, even though itâs hard to use at first. And best of all reasons: Itâs free! :D I used it to convert the Epic Pinball and Silverball music myself, no problems so farâŠ
But I digress: all of the JJ1 musics (even the secret Deserto one) have all been converted to .s3m format. Theyâre all currently floating around somewhereâŠ

P.S. Kind of an irrelevant article, Iâd expect this to be deleted in a couple of daysâŠWhy not post in JCF next time?

They arenât S3M files that have been secretly switched. PSM is an actual format named Protracker Studio, and it actually matches STM (Screamtracker 2) files rather than S3M (Screamtracker 3) files. However, Modplug exports it to S3M, since it doesnât support saving of STM files.
I should also add that Modplug reads some PSM files incorrectly, namely SONGCD8.PSM, where the timing gets all messed up, and SONG14.PSM, where the volume slides get all messed up.
