Description

So much to say, don’t know where to start. I’ll try and keep this short ;) Anyways, this is a little project I’ve been planning for quite some time now (August 2002), but all of the drawing was done in this year, while the majority of it was done in the past 2 months. I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time, but have only gotten around to it now, as I wanted to reach the 50 tilesets mark first. Yes it’s TSF, and if you haven’t already guessed by now what it means I’m gonna tell you. This tileset is big (hence the name), wait, this tileset is HUGE! 541kb in size and a total of 4090 tiles (TSF tile imit), four times bigger than anything else I’ve done before. The theme is well, a bit of everything really, but nothing futuristic, it’s sort of a city with the surrounding landscape and towns. I liked the music, but it could’ve been better, the song I had planned for this didn’t want to work in JJ2 (bah!) so this is the alternative.

Another thing you will prolly notice is all the Blade signs in here. I’ve looked at his stuff a lot more than I usually have lately and well…they’re good, very good. I admire his tilesets, a lot of work are put into those and not everyone knows how hard it is to make tilesets like that. Good luck in the future Blade your tilesets are great! :D

Since this is TSF, I decided to upload a tileset preview for people who don’t have TSF yet but would like to have a look at the tileset. Please DO NOT rate the set if you don’t have TSF. A tileset should never be rated just by looking at an image, theres a lot more to them. http://www.beute.plus.com/stuff/megamegatropolis.gif (Beware, it’s 1.52mb)

Finally now wiht that done I’ve got an announcement to make. This is my last tileset, with this tileset done I’ve done everything I’ve wanted to do. After 50 tilesets it’s just not as fun as it used to be anymore, and the things I’ve worked on this year have been more like a punishment instead of a hobby I can enjoy. Maybe one day when I’m in the mood again to make tilesets I’ll start making them again, but I assure you that wouldn’t be soon.

Oops, almost forgot to say that It’s my 19th birthday today, which is why I’m uploading this tileset. I always upload somehting on my birthday (Spacey Universe and Wisetys Wonders in the past)

“Made for: Blade”? Now I gotta review this one :D

Disguise’s new Mega Megatropolis is amazing. I think this tileset is actually the first tileset ever made that takes advantage of TSF’s huge tile limit. Some other people could have made 5000 tiles full of crap but when we are talking about Disguise, it’s 5000 blocks full of quality. Since this is categorized as a tileset, I won’t include the example level in my rating.

I recognize many Disguise’s earlier productions from this tileset. Nature’s Ruins, Metal Mania, Townsville, Africa… all in one. I consider those tilesets as the best tilesets Disguise has ever made, and now he has combined them all to this colossal tileset. All hail Disguise :)

The tileset has everything, especially different platforms where to walk. Grass, planks, rail roads, roads, all kinds of indoor tiles… Disguise has included all essential tiles also. Sucker tubes (once again that Disguise style! :D), vines and poles. Of course there are a lot of tiles for layers 5-7. And the best: I see eye-candy everywhere. Cars, plants, rocks, road signs (my name can be written with those :), clocks… I liked a lot the trains. It was brilliant idea to allow one to go inside the train cabins.

Despite of everything, I found some little mistakes (very very small). The biggest one was a perspective error between the chimney and a building roof. I looked a bit funny, but didn’t spoil my amazement with this master piece :) Also I think that the warp background could have been better. It doesn’t look like clouds… I would have liked something smoother.

Before I go do something else, I must say that this is absolutely the best tileset of Disguise (hmm… I think I said that before?). It is beautiful, it is large, and it is not hard to use. And there are lots of “Blade”-signs! :D I must make a level using this tileset…:) Summary: Mega Megatropolis is one heck of a tileset.

…this is my longest review ever, but Disguise deserved it :)[This review has been edited by Blade]

This is got to be one of the greatest tilesets ever to be made. As well as being the world’s largest JJ2 tileset, it has some of the most immpressive graphics in a tileset I have ever seen. Disguise has worked extremely hard to make this. This tileset has inspired me to make tilesets as good as his. Personally I don’t think he should of left J20, as his next tilesets would be……..incredible. Anyway, I’m spending too much time saying how good Mega Megatropolis is so I’m will start writing the main review now.

THEME
The tileset is set in a modern city with quite a lot of plant growth. Examples of eyecandy are: Tree, Leaves, buildings, hills in background, offices, sewers, etc. It is very good for any type of level.
Examples of level ideas are: A race level on the road, a CTF level in the sewers, Devan attacking the town centre or a treasure hunt around the city. There some areas that could of been better, like it could of had more vehicles on the road. There was only one car and one train in the entire tileset. A city tileset would probably have more cars/lorries/trains etc. Also, the windows would be better with frames.
9/10

USEABILITY
The tileset is very useable for any kind of level. (as metioned above)I found it quite hard to find my way around the tileset (since its so large). What could of been done is that everything could of been arranged so there could be all the plant-related stuff at the top, then a part for the houses, then the sewers, then the interiers could be somewhere, and all the layer 5/6/7/8 backgrounds at the bottom. This tileset is designed for advanced level-makers to use, and might be a bit intimidating for begginners.
8/10

ACCURACY
There is absolutely no bugs in this tileset. The diagonals all fit together perfectly, there are no tiles missing that would be needed and there is a mask message too. This is one of the vry few tilesets done with 100% accuracy. Even Agama’s tilesets have a few bugs in them. Well done, Disguise!
10/10

FINAL SCORE
Good Points:

*No bugs!

*4090 tiles mean lots of choice

Bad Points:

*Is hard to use

*Not much vehicles

SCORE

9.6

Awesome tileset. I’ve never seen anything like it before! It has heaps of tiles and you will, I hope, never have to use background layer 1 again because you can have practically EVERYTHING in the sprite layer, leaving you with more space to put even more eyecandy!!! :D Mega Megatropolis has got two themes, one country and one city and puts them together so you can make a lvl with a city and some nature together. The eyecandy is exceptionally good, and some of the small stuff that most ppl doesn’t notice are excellent. My favourite are the trains. :) Too bad they aren’t animated, but the tileset couldn’t get bigger, which is obviously not Wisety’s fault.

The tileset’s size may scare away some, maybe even veteran, lvl creators (I’m still reluctant to use this tileset). In the hands of an able and inspired lvl creator, Mega Megatropolis could be used to create awesome lvls! I just wish that maybe you had organized the tiles better or even wrote some kind of Beginner’s Guide to Mea Metropolis but I don’t think I can take away bi chunks of the rating because the tileset is so hard to use. Good job, Wisey. 9.2.

This is a more than worthy last-tileset and even if you don’t want to make lvls with Mega Megatropolis, you should, I’m sorry, you MUST still DL this because you will be stuck for ages trying to DL this beast on JJ2!!!! :-D

EDIT: Raised my rating and added more comments. I didn’t feel like such a great tileset creator like Wisey should have a measly little 8.7 for his grand finale. :-D

Wow…

I ever not made tilesets but i think that was VERY VERY HARD work. but finally all the work was worthwhile!
This is the BEST City tileset! Great Eyecandy with a lot of things!
and to think Before i downloaded this i think Town House was the great city tileset..
Bad Points:
1. hard to use
2. it’s a pity that no night and evening conversions like in 1.23 version…

so i give it 9.7

Yes, this is the powerful Tileset!
But where are too much blocks. The backgronud in 4 layer you can do in 5 layer and you can delete a half of tileset. Also is very hard to use. But anybody can download this to see this incerdible tileset. But I don’t see any “good” levels based on this tileset

Argh. I don’t know why I have to be the one to give this tileset it’s current highest rating. But anyway…

With this being the huge tileset that it is, it shows that Disguise put much much much much effort into it. And with this, I’m making a rare exception of using a TSF tileset (just to prove Wisety wrong). But it’s going to take an awful lot of work to misuse the entire tileset. I sorta have a theme in mind, but it’ll probably get warped the more and more I work on my level.

I don’t know if I’m crazy, but I’m giving this 9.2 just because. Now make a night version.

You really deserve a 10 on this!

Great tileset.
Pros
It’s huge!
Nice looking.
Cons
It’s huge!
Not too much animation.

You should make another version that takes out some of the more “unneccasary” tiles so you can make a 1.23 version. I’d make levels with this, but I’d have to make them 1.24… and therefore, not many people would download them, and I’d get all messed up because the versions would confuse eachother and throw all kinds of mean errors.

Edit: After staring at this for about 20 minutes, drooling with amazement, I’m going to have to raise my rating to 9.5.

Sweet tileset! It makes me wish I had TSF :) . I took a long look at the preview GIF, but as you requested, I won’t rate it. I will however, comment:

Good Stuff:
- hugeness
- detail level
- backgrounds/layers
- wood stuff
- music :)
- Jazz2 artistic style (something I lack most times)
- heck with it, it’s all good!

Bad Stuff:
- I don’t have TSF! :(

It is excellent work. Another work by Disguise. I love this tileset. Cool example level. But, and this is big minus, this is TSF… Then, I waiting to 1.25 patch… ;p
It musts be in 1.24, becuz it is large. Then I give 10. GREAT WORK, DISGUISE!!!
