Changed battle1..
Its nice.
but i give it a 6.5..
because its only changed with more eyecandy.

a 6.5 from me.[This review has been edited by 007]

(Unsupported rating removal edit. If I changed the eyecandy of Zappo Egypt, would you give me a 6.5? I think not. ~Violet)[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]

Why? Why always Battle 1? Why not battle 2 or 3, or one of the CTf levels? Tell me!!!

Since this is yet another battle 1 remake, I’ll just discuss the changes made to this level.

Tileset:
This version uses Kaven’s Carrotus 1 edit Thermal K1 (I still don’t know how the got the name), which is just Carrotus with a reddish palette, some lava, added wooden platforms and “fire flowers” (no, not the ones you find in the Mario games, but plants with fire in the cantre).

Lay-out:
Perfectly intact, except for the large drop at the left-most area: A tree at the bottom is in the way.

Eye Candy:
Pretty basic, just like the Official Battle 1: some plants, carrots and turnips scattered around, lava walls, and lava as background. It’s a shame the lava bg moves at the same speed at layer 4. Also, the tileset hasn’t been used to it’s full extent, but that’s a personal thing. One thing tho: avoid having to use layers 5 to 7 to add eye candy to layer 4. I personally hold a grudge to that, since some people (including me) play online in low detail (which removes layers 1,2,5,6 and 7). Thankfully, there aren’t any tile bugs in low detail.

Ammo, goodies, stuff that’s good:
Once again, everything in Battle 1 is carried over to this version, except for the bubble shield, which is understandable. Everyone hates shield users (at least in my time :p). Instead of the shield, you’ll find a RF-Powerup (very good alternative)

Music:
What music, it just isn’t there!

Miscellaneous:
One thing I like to comment about is the next level setting: it’s set to the Official Battle 2 level (the Tubelectric one), which is disappointing. I would have liked it if it were set to itself, or at least made a remake of every battle in cycle…

Verdict:
A pretty decent remake of Battle 1. Only recommended for the “Battle 1 remake collectors” (I dunno if there are any) or for those who wanna see a different battle 1.

A remake?
Well, you shouldn’t make remakes of old levels, because most people hates when doing this.
Alltough, here’s my review

GAMEPLAY/DESIGN:
Gameplay was the same as in the official Battle1 from Cliff Bleszinski.
Only changed thing is RF powerup (not bubble shield) and some text events that says that this remake is remade by the remaker of remakeable things Dx.
PROS: RF pu instead of bubble shield
CONS: remake of old battle1 from Cliff Bleszinski
RATING: N/A

TILESET/TILESET USE:
Dx used the Thermal K tileset, a mixture of Carrotus and Darn Nation. The eyecandy is a bit better than in battle1, but not all that interesting (textured bg/foreground??). The tiles all fit together properly. Nothing more to say I think.
PROS: a bit better eyecandy than in the original battle1
CONS: no textured bg or foreground
RATING: 6.0

WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT:
Like in official battle1, only RF powerup instead of bubble shield.
PROS: RF POWERUP
CONS: remake
RATING: N/A

REPLAY/FUN FACTOR/ORIGINALITY:
replay is like in battle1 good, also fun factor but it isn’t made by Dx so no rating. Because it is a remake there isn’t any originality.
PROS: -
CONS: -
RATING: N/A

OVERALL:
Overall ok remake, alltough the eyecandy could be a lot more interesting.
PROS: RF POWERUP
CONS: eyecandy could be better
FINAL RATING: 5.0

JelZe, I made a DW edit with the JJ1 tileset, if you want to take a look at that. Look at Jazz 1: Warzone v3.0 or something of the sort. Anyway, the only thing changed here is the eyecandy, so that’s all I can really rate this on… Well, the eyecandy is rather ugly. You removed the shield, too, and that’s good… overall, I’ll just have to agree with JelZe. I seem to be a bit hesitant rating things that add little features to Battle1. There are some isolated turnips that get in the way when you’re running on flat ground. The warp to the seeker powerup is too low. There is a warp near the warp to the seeker powerup that takes you through a slow sucker tube, displaying DX DC’s logo. It ruins the gameplay, as you can hide in there, and you can accidently go in there. I’ll have to take off points.

I suppose if I must rate, I’ll rate it 5.2.[This review has been edited by labratkid]
