Description

Latest JJ1 conversion, complete with two additional palettes/themes. Uses graphics from Crysilis, Ceramicus, Marbelara, Letni, Stonar, Jungrock, Dreempipes, Orbitus, Industrius, Battleships, Pezrox and Fanolint.

P.S. There are a few tiles that may be edited, differently colored, missing, etc., from the original… I don’t care. I was much more interested in carrying across my impression of Crysilis than getting every single tile in.

ETA: On account of the download breaking for some indiscernible reason, you can get the .zip here instead. [J2O download fixed ~Stijn]

This has got to be the best tileset conversion EVER. This pack contains 3 different versions each with a bunch of other JJ1 tilesets combined into 3 FANTASTIC sets.
There are one or two minor errors but who cares?
This deserves a big fat juicy 10!
Even the example levels are AWESOME!

Don’t have the inspiration to write a full review yet.

This is great! Love it! 10 all the way.

BTW good job on getting the best rating a tileset has ever gotten. (I’ve yet to see another tileset with a 10 as an average rating XD Agima came close)

This is really awesome. I’m speechless. >O

This is a great jj1 conversion, especially since it uses tiles from so many different places. Probably the best jj1 conversion I have ever seen. But I’m not really sure why this deserves a 10, so it gets a 9. Even agama didn’t get this many 10’s.

Well, since I’m the reason this tileset conversion more or less exists, I feel obligated to write a review for it. Not that I don’t want to in the first place.

For a long time, now, I’ve been bugging Violet to make a Crysilis conversion, since the original one from a long time ago was subpar (in my opinion, at least) and contained various tile errors, as well as missing key components. Finally, my constant bugging has been answered, and Violet has delivered no doubt his finest work.

CrysilisV is really three tilesets in one: the first one is a straight-up conversion of Crysilis, with many extra tiles from other JJ1 levels thrown in. The second one is a recolor that is reminiscent of Mystic Cave/Hidden Palace Zone from the Sonic games, and the third one is a light blue recolor that mimics Marbelara, complete with lava (even lava-colored water for you 8-bit palette freaks). Each of the tilesets has its own original art, but are organized in such a way as to minimize confusion and allow users to change the tileset on a whim. The tilesets are complete with destruct scenery, tubes, vines, hooks, and everything else you need for your JJ2 level. There’s even extensive invisible platforms.

I know it’s not kosher to review the example levels, but I feel that Violet put an effort into these, and it should be noticed. The example levels themselves do an excellent job of showcasing what the tileset can do, as well as being fun and enjoyable in their own right, chock full of new ideas. If you play them (which you should), honor Violet and play them in 8-bit.

Everything about this conversion, from idea to execution, is flawless. This tileset has literally unlimited possibilities, and sets the standard to which all conversions are measured by. If you play JJ1 or JJ2, you must own this tileset.

Ok ok, this’ll be the featured one. I hope. Anyway…
DESIGN
Good job, good job. You put in lots of different styles [I like how you put tiles from Stonar and other places into the set], and made it interesting. However, the brown rocks are supposed to be a background, not solid tiles. How do I know? Well, the nature of the secret project I am working on reveals just that. Oh well, that’s what an updated version is for.
EYE CANDY
Lots of it, you again kept the tileset interesting. The water on the bridges, the vultures, the egg[s], it’s all well thought out. Kudos!
USEFULNESS
Well, that’s where I’d wobble a bit. See, it’s such an amazing incredible set, but I think it needs a little work in that area. Esp that black rock background. I dunno. I’m feeling generous, so I’ll give you a good rating.
SUMMARY:
Overall, you did [another] phenomenal job, wowing me again, and I look forward to your next edition. Download this, and have fun!
[By the way, could someone please make a “good” TechNoir set? Just asking] Regards!

NOTE TO READERS: please don’t say this review is helpful. I totally recognise what bantha fodder it really is. :P

The first screenshot looks a lot like the old Crysilis, but the other two look more like an entirely diffrent thing. I`ll edit when I`ve downloaded and looked at it. But even now I think this is worth a 6 for eyecandy alone! edit: OH NO! THE LINK IS BROKEN!

[Rating (6.0) clearance. Please learn to read. – cooba]
I did read, but I thought it might be broken for AOL users or something like that, then downloaded it.(Well, that didn`t actually happen, but…)Next time I`ll review AFTER I try downloading it.
Also, someone below me was able to download it. As I said, next time I`ll do better before posting…

OK! I downloaded it know. WOO! It is above my best expectations! I agree fully with that extremely long, but helpful review. (Am I allowed to enter my rating now?)
I give it a 9.7. Just because perfectity can`t be achieved. But, this is near perfectity! It REALLY is good. Example two has used tiles that make me feel like playing Sonic…which is quite funny, BTW.
So, if you`re STILL not convinced to download this, then you shouldn`t be around here AT all.
