Obviously the two tilesets connected use more than 256 colors. That or you used a sucky program to convert the color format.

Ouch. You see, Diamondus and Carrotus both use 256 colors. However, it's a different 256 colors. The software could only use half of them.
In the future, always save as a full color image FIRST and then reduce in a save-as so you can try different things and different programs for the color reduction.

BlurredD's Crash Course Partial Solution
Those textured background tiles burn my eyes. It's a shame to still see people having palette issues.
What I would suggest is:
If my directions made sense and you managed to do all that, the textured background won't look horrendous anymore. By the way, this method doesn't account for palette events since that would complicate things. And so much for a reply to the first mentioned problem. I personally think this other problem is much more important.

Why do you want a mix between two tilesets anyway? Why not create two different levels using those tilesets and let them fit between each other as good as possible..

Maybe because that wouldn't suit the gameplay?
