Smokin dragonic lizard
![]() The perspective with the chair is off and the chair doesn't really have straight lines either (I need to learn how to use a ruler) but I thought the smoke coming from his mouth looks somewhat realistic. The background could be better, I'm not an expert at drawing leaves or anything. ![]() I know I will get some comments about the subject of the art, ![]() ![]() Last edited by Fôx; Jul 29, 2003 at 12:24 AM. |

Indeed, well done on the smoke. However it lacks a lot of shading. All bright colors on the pallette is only good for 2d I think. The back of his neck is lit up, IMO the light source looks like it's suppoused to be from above. Welcome to the Art Forum. |

I already told you what I thought on #jj2, but ah well. My only complaint is that the chair is way off. And now that Kaz mentions it, some of the shading is off, too. At least, it seems that way. The lizard/dragon could just be a little lighter colored on its top. The smoke is well done.
And the subject matter rocks ;P

The light source is supposed to be coming from just below the upper left corner, around the left side of the top of the chair. At least, that's how I pictured it when I was doing the lighting and shading.
Also if you can picture it, the scales on his tummy are supposed to be shinier... I was thinking of my snakes when I did that part. They are very scaly on their tops, but their bellies are smooth and shiny. I never was very good at shading...I tried to improve it a bit though, any better? |

Doesn't look half bad, really. Though I'm wondering where his left leg (far to perspective) is coming from at that point... :-) Besides that, the pose looks good.
And the chair... well... yeah, you admitted the chair's perspective looks wrong, so... yeah. :-) It might work better if you try to draw the lizard sinking into the chair a bit... add a bit of depth and softness to the chair, or a bit of "squishiness" to the lizard's back (Like... hide the spikes on his back). That might help for later. Don't fret too much over shading, I say. It takes time, usually. Though I do like the shine on the lizard's belly. All in all, not bad. Keep working at it! NOW! GO! :-)

It doesn't look at all natural for a dragon to be laying on it's back like that. Generally they lay on their belly and stay curled up. Then again, I can't say I've ever seen a real dragon.

The smoke is done really good, and the colors are cool. I give it a thumbs up because it looks very well done. I like how colorful his tummy is. Shading is decent too... I would have expected that it would have been done a bit differently, but that was before I saw your reply about how they're more shiny underneath, so that's well done too. I'm not sure what I can add to this, other than to say keep up the good work. Your art is definately improving compared to some of the older works that you've done. |
