Last palette qustions of JSZ Jazz
Here are the last things I would like to know about tileset palette:
1. Which colors of tileset are used by: a) Pinball objects? b) Water gradient in 8-bit? c) Snow? d) "FF" character color? 2. Those pink colors on the bottom, are they necesarry? Can I put some other colors instead of them? 3. What is the best free program for making textures? 4. Where can I get Palette Suite? (my PSP trial ended) 5. How smooth has the gradient be to look good in 8-bit? 6. Do I have to use all 32 colors of texture? Can't the texture have smaller amount of colors? I hope the questions aren't too hard. ![]() JSZ Jazz

Snow?
Disguise made an article on this right here. Those pink colors on the bottom, are they necesarry? Can I put some other colors instead of them? It worked excellent for me, so you can. What is the best free program for making textures? TM32 Where can I get Palette Suite? (my PSP trial ended) Here. Do I have to use all 32 colors of texture? Can't the texture have smaller amount of colors? You can't, you must use all 32 colors, and you cannot use #000000 (Pure Black) and #FFFFFF (Pure white). |

Reply to question starts here, ignore above if you're lazy: The Jazz colour 'FF' refers to the palette entry 256. I'm pretty sure it wont work and will give you a screwy colour. You're welcome to shove in a colour in the very last palette entry and stick it somehwere in your tileset and see what happens. I'm not sure myself, just 'theorizing' Quote:

Palsuite mentioned above does an AMAZING job at making gradients for textured backgrounds. Just put in the first colour, put in the last colour, select them and all the colours inbetween and press the Gradient button. VOILA! JOB DONE! You have a PERFECT smooth gradient. One of the main reasons I use the proggy ![]() Quote:
Phew, done, hope that helps ![]()

Thanks! Now, explanation: FF is the color which makes your fur (gun, headband, whatever) change color when swithing to other tileset. For example, on Tubelectric, this colour is purple, and in castle it's brown. In my tilesets it looks really ugly...

PINBALL OBJECTS!
Shooting Pads 7 Palette entries (96-102) Carrot Bump 7 Palette entries (112-119) EDIT: palette entry 115 IS used afterall. It's a bright colour (almost white), used for the flash the bumpers get when you hit them. 500 Bump Inside piece: 8 Palette entries (96-103) Outside Piece: 12 Palette Entries (128-139) All of these entries are gradients. The lightest colour starts at the lowest entry and the darkest colour at the last entry (for example 128-139 would be a gradient where entry 128 was lightest colour and entry 139 was darkest). I also did some checks on the colour FF, and I can tell you now it will never work. Why? because of the way the fur colours work. The entry you give the registry is the first out of a gradient of 8 colours. Because FF is the last colour in the palette, the other 7 colours that are supposed to follow it dont exist and will be pure black instead. In 8-bit fur colours for entries like that go totally bezerk and turn into all sorts of colours. Don't ask me how that works, cuz I dont have a clue ![]()

Great work, Disguise! However, entry 115 actually IS used in the carrot bumper. It's the highlight flash that happens when you hit the bumper!

`N0 ==Edit== I downloaded TM32.zip, and you want it. Gimp can make easy textured backgrounds (skys), TM32 can make texture tiles.
