DoS Attack
Right now, a DoS attack is being performed against the Jazz 2 list server. This is when a group of people ping the list server in great volume, causing slowdown or even crash. So far, the list server has only been slowed down moderately, but depending on the size and involvement of the attack, it may slow to a crawl or even crash. This is not a test attack, and is being preformed by an organized group. Until then, I would recommend not relying on the list server for urgent games and instead trading IPs. There is no word on how long this will last nor how many people are involved, but I would say the number is probably below ten right now. This may change. Regardless of what happens, the list server will probably be quite slow for the rest of the night (starting from 12:30 GMT roughly). Again, the list server may be down for a while, or at least slow down significantly. Do not rely on the list server for hosting urgent matches, and instead exchange IPs.
EDIT: As of this edit, 12:32 AM GMT, the list server had now slowed down much at all, and was running quite well. -Trafton

I am happy to report that absolutely nothing has happened. The list server is running smoothly and seems not to have taken any damage at all.

Typical Craccoboy, trying to blame AA in any way he can.
BTW no, it was DDL, go check the PICTURES section on j20, if the admins havent deleted piccolo's "picture"

good job then.
Anywayz, just incase the people DO destroy the list server, before that happends you people should memorize eahc others IP's if youstill want to play together etc. etc.

To even crash the list server for a while (Burger, very nicely, repairs it quickly despite not even having to) would require a much greater amount of people involved.

10 people pinging is a joke. ;D
they've successfully simulated the load on the listserver from 10 games (less, in fact, since they're sending less data). Somehow, I'm not worried. heh.

"Could this DoS be in any way related to AA or BOMB?" I think they mean with a "DOS ATTACK" an attack on a server with DOS, the operating system its pretty easy to do... Derby: Acronym edit. Last edited by Derby; Apr 25, 2003 at 01:03 PM. |

When I was hosting yesterday, we had a visit from a piccolo ddl , who claimed he was going to use dos to bring down the list servers. Wow good for you , you can use a super old operating system! Qdos ;P> Quick and dirty operating system. Then Bill Gates bot it , and changed it to Dos, bah to him.

Alright. Let me get this straight. They were performing a DoS (Denial of Service) through the DOS (Disk-based Operating System / MSDOS) PING command. From now on, I'll refer to Denial of Service as DoS (note the lowercase O) and DOS (the operating system) as MSDOS. They were using the MSDOS ping command to perform a DoS (Denial of Service) on the list servers.
Edit: This is fairly new to me, so I probably will make some technical mistake along the road here. Feel free to correct me if so.

I agree with MB. This game is unimportant, we just play it for pleasure and if you ruin it for us, im sure we'll find another game to play.

So let me get this straight. You want to be accepted, so you believe everything they do without question. If you have your own thoughts, you are wrong and therefore badgered. Imho, it sounds like you need a reality check.
And you know Trafton? How does Trafton fit in the "bad" description? |
