More stuff JJ2 took from other games
I've been browsing old DOS games and such recently and came across a game based on the Lion King movie. I wouldn't have posted this had there not been screenshots on the same page, but there were and when I looked at them I quickly noticed that certain jj2 tilesets look quite similar to the ones in Lion King.
As I can't post the link here cause the site has warez and stuff on it, i took the screenies and uploaded them elsewhere. So.. ![]() ![]() I don't know if you guys knew about this before, but I certainly didn't. Just felt like sharing.

I remember that game; I played the demo or something a long time ago. I remember it had really, really nice tilesets. And yeah, I'm pretty sure the JJ2 people got some (*cough*all) inspiration from it, especially the tileset shown in the latter image.

Yeah, it does. Kinda dissapointing. Edit: I might as well mention this here too, but I think Colonius was inspired by Captain Claw. There is a city locale in that game which looks similar enough to Colonius. Not only are the buildings similar enough to remind me of Colonius, but both of the sets have sewer systems in the city as well (though they look completely different).

So THAT'S why Dam Nation looked so familiar the first time I saw it! By the way, I don't have any comparison pictures, but I always thought the grass in JJ1 Diamondus looked a lot like the grass in Sonic 2's Emerald Hill Zone.

Wow... I played this game, but I never passed the third level so I haven't seen these levels. Awesome.

Well, I think its not big surprise :/
Jazz 2 have lots of stuff copied from games. From Sonic. From Earthworm Jim (it maybe copied from jj2 xD). From all. Jazz 2 is kinda "game of cameos" ![]() And now I know why Lion king looked so familiar when I played it on emulator ;D |

Well jj2 & 1 are a mix of some great old platform games (mario, sonic, aladdin, megaman, book of the jungle, etc.) with a Bucky O'Hare rip-off character, and on the story of the turtle vs. rabbit tale & star wars (cough... deckstar, bounty hounter, princess cough).

And Claw's city was way better because it had a guy with a robotic arm that shot LASERS.

No, they're not identical graphics. They're INSPIRED graphics BASED on those from Lion King, but REDRAWN.

Ripped off = Mac OS X's GUI
Mac OS X's GUI = Windows Vista's GUI OMG this is turning into an association! ;O

I don't really agree to they are a rip. Those tilesets in the gameboy game are far more limited and have far less details. Just because they have the same theme and certain tiles look the same does not mean they are ripped off each other. You may find that Nick probably never played the game (considering it was released in his adult age, and I really doubt he'd be playing Lion King on a GBA).
Please consider that some of the concepts nick stole/ripped were old ones, probably ones that he liked as a child himself. |

I played that game before JJ2, and Nick has a good history of being 'inspired' by stuff.

Nick played the game Cool Spot, and loved the animations. Why he didn't play a game that was animated by Disney animators just for the animations is beyond me. Remember, he used to watch a lot of old MGM and Warner Bros. cartoons for inspiration. Most adults wouldn't do that

Sorry for disrupting the discussion, but I want to share my findings. I assume that most of you played Commander Keen (episode 5) before - there's an enemy very similliar to JJ1 Sparks. Maybe their moves are different, but the idea is similliar - floating eyeballs surrounded by electricity.
Also, in the first Rayman game there are platforms very similliar to the fruit platform from JJ2 (graphically). I'll throw some screenshots if I find/do any, 'cause I'm busy right now.
