Need layout ideas.
Ok, I am having a sort of a problem. When I make a level I use my own style everytime. Even if I look at famous levels with completely different layout my layouts will become the same. I just put some platforms somewhere and then you have a layout. I usually use Paint for my layouts. But now I want to get rid of this.
If I'd make levels with other layouts my levels would probably become better. I need advice for both CTF and Battle levels(because I'm not that good in making Battle levels and I want to become better with that too) I've made lots of CTF levels already, but almost all of them have the same type of layout. My last level was an exception though. The layouts I make are almost always too simple, they need to be more complex like Semi. I am making a pack too, and I want it to be good. One Battle level of it is probably too bad, so I want to make a better one. Ok, so now I want people to give me advice about different kinds of layouts. CTF layouts are welcome, but Battle layouts are even better. -DS |

I suggest studying layouts, not just look at them, but study them. Ask yourself "Why does this layout work?" It's certanly not just because it looks complex. In order to become better at layouts, you need to know why layouts work. Each layout serves a purpose, be it to purposely hide secrets (or in MP's case PUs), to lead you straight to the base, or to be as confusing as mind boggling possibly(not that it's a good design choice, mind you). Not giving the layout a role might damage it in the long run.

n00b: Maybe that helps.. I've looked at some levels pretty detailed, but I don't remember much of it.
Frost: LOL, that layout is too simple. |
