What Puffie said, and then head north with Uberbob first, in case Abydos fakes being dead.

I stuffed Shuri into the sleeping bag. "Canoe, do your healing thing," I commanded the boat (and, by proxy, Fooruman).
The old wizard raised the canoe oar over his head. "By the powers invested in me, I now pronounce you-" he slammed the paddle down onto Shuri's body - "-RAISED!" Shuri began to move, a bit dazed at first. She looked down at her body. "Why.. why am I in a sleeping bag?" I began to seriously contemplate why I had put Shuri in a sleeping bag. Was I becoming like Uberbob? Was I slave to obscure compulsions? I quickly devised a convincing solution. "It... it was so it could be like a coccoon. And you could rise - like a butterfly - reborn more majestic than before. So you could spread your magical butterfly wings and.. do something. Yeah." Araches looked me straight in the eye. "Faw, that was the gayest thing I've eve-" "Hey! Let's go North!" I interrupted, "starting with Uberbob!" "I'm game!" he called cheerfully, running into Abydos' open jaws. I heard his footsteps fade off into the distance. I didn't hear him dying, though, which was a good sign. I and the rest of the party, stepped, slithered and rowed through the gate. As we travelled down the dark tunnel, I turned and looked behind me. A slow hissing noise grew into a shriek; Abydos' serrated teeth slammed themselves shut, leaving us in the dark, with nowhere to go but forward towards a soft red glow ahead. And with that, I'm going to take a break to go have a happyfun thanksgiving (for non-americans, that's a day when we kill mutant america-chickens called turkeys). |

Hack off one of the teeth of Abydos (preferably a canine) to take with you and follow the light while looking around for other stuff
That's not too complicated, is it?

I'll go and read ToU part 1.
EDIT: So that's where Uberbob's thingymajiggy thirdnotestrudel comes from... EDIT 2: I really liked those pictures at the beginning of the thread, Radium. I wouldn't mind if you spent time on them rather than on writing. Besides 'a picture tells more than a thousand words', |

Still on page 80 of ToU 1. Wow, best skyscraper/sword fight ever.
Hehe, look at cracka's post: http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showt...t=8967&page=80 EDIT: A real command now. Ask Araches why she always throws fireballs at Uberbob but never uses them in battle, or have any fireball spells. Last edited by White Rabbit; Nov 23, 2006 at 03:24 PM. |

"Araches," I asked the sorceress as we walked along. "Yes hon?" "Why do you never use fireballs in battles? I've seen you use them on Uberbob as a form of physical punishment." "Fire isn't that useful, really. Lightning is hotter, faster, and more badass, and it even sets things on-" she paused, holding down her clothing and shivering as a sharp, strong gust of wind torrented down the tunnel. I pulled the sleeping bag tighter around my shoulders. Faw had let me keep it (and I deserved it, considering he made me listen to his dramatic retelling of how Uberbob's first aid kit had finally come in handy, saving the accupuncturist from certain doom after my 4-HP CPR job). Leetzan looked worst of all. The biting cold that faded through the air as we approached the entrance before us shattered her hopes that the tunnel would lead to a volcano. I felt kind of bad for her; no fur, half a full set of clothes, and half her body laying on the cold ground. I gave her my sleeping-bag-cloak. If my own clothes and fur weren't enough to survive the cold, I could always skin Faw or Uberbob. |

Head through the archway.

The shrieking sound of the wind got louder and the air got progressively colder as we approached the opening. By the time I stepped through the arch, the sound was deafening and I could barely feel my extremedies. The party lingered back as I stepped out into the light to scout.
Presumably we were still underground, though I could make out no ceiling or walls. The thick, unearthly red fog blurred the landscape all around me, though I could still make out large, mountainous forms in the distance. I staggered forth in the bitter cold until my arms met something warm. A rusty, heated metal pipe stretched off into the distance before me as well as to either side, the three paths meeting at a rusty metal wheel. The pipe to the left was freezing cold. "Come through quick!" I called back to the party, hoping my voice could overcome the wind. Fawriel came sprinting out to the pipe, then Araches, Uberbob, and the canoe, carrying Fooruman and L33tz4n. "Hey, Shuri," Uberbob said, his arms wrapped around the warm pipe, "remember back on Antifoo Isle, when there was that furnace room that was too hot to go through?" "Yes?" "Yeah. Good times." "..." I responded. Araches, on the other hand, nodded in agreement. |

Turn the wheel counterclockwise and feel the left pipe now.

Do what Lem said, then go over the pipe and head towards the buildings (the one in the middle)

I grasped the wheel and turned it counterclockwise. It creaked at first as though the axle was going to snap, but soon gave in, made a coarse scraping noise, and rotated. The piping shuddered as a dull warmth flowed into the left pipe.
Fawriel looked down at the pipe he was holding to stay warm. "It's getting cold." "Try the left one," I responded, "or the one in front of us; I'm going to go check out that building ahead," I added, climbing over the metal pipe. After a short challenge with hoising the canoe over the pipe, the party followed me forward. The pipe took a sharp right turn up ahead. Before us was a large metal box with a small rectangular indentation containing two metal claws. A pipe led out of the box and across a stream of smoking, opaque blue liquid. I went forward a bit and felt the box and the pipe. They were both colder than ice. |

I had the sudden urge to catalog everything I was in possession of. It was pretty easy: I had my katana. Too easy, I thought, so I tried a bit harder. I had my katana, my pants, and my armor. Or, I had my katana, my pants, my armor, my fur, my skin, hopefully most of my internal organs, debatably a soul, and eyes. I looked down at my katana, thinking to myself that maybe I was supposed to be picking up pretty rocks or something.
After guessing to myself that the blue liquid was some kind of liquified gas, I took a right and led the party along the same heated pipe. The pipe straightened out, going forward for as far as I could see. I could make out something large and round through the mist to the right. |
Nov 24, 2006, 09:56 AM | |
Go forward.

Straight lines are boring. I continued forward. The pipe must have been leading us past the large round object, because it disappeared into the fog behind us. Soon we reached another intersection in the pipes. I felt the left and right pipes. Only the one on the left was heated.

Turn back, attempt to find the large object in the fog, do a cartwheel, prove 2=1.

Just turn around and go back to the dome thing you saw.

For some reason I felt like doing a cartwheel and some math, though doing a cartwheel when you can't feel your limbs never leads to anything good.
I turned around and started back down the straight pipe; I wanted to find out more about this large dome I had passed. I could see it off to the left, but it was very far away. More prominent from this direction was the tower-like building we had seen when we first enterted. "What do you think that is?" I asked Fawriel. "I don't know... something man-made." "Wow. Thank you, I never would have guessed that." |
Nov 24, 2006, 11:17 AM | |
I'm working on a map, just a moment...
EDIT: The map is not very hard to understand: The single black lines are the pipes, the red circles are the wheels. The numbers attached to the wheels show in what state they are turned into. The coloured numbers near the pipes show if they're warm or cold, and in which state they are warm or cold. Red is warm, blue is cold. (example: the lower wheel has been turned to state 2, thus the left pipe gets warm and the right one gets cold.) Pink text means that it is not known if the object is warm or cold. Get it?

the picture with the stream is called "generatorF.gif" Now what could those claws hold?
I don't think Faw's machine parts would fit there, would it? There are two options that I think are the most sensable (I think): -that round building is a red herring. Lets approach that tower and see if it gets any closer. -follow the pipe to the left. |
Nov 24, 2006, 01:05 PM | |
I'd go for the tower...
|
Nov 24, 2006, 01:37 PM | |
The tower is probably closed because the temperature is too low or something like that.
So let's head for the tower.

"Start with me!" Uberbob responded. She already felt up the second junction pipes. Also, by "follow pipe to left", do you mean the one at the junction you just came from? "Go to tower" needs some specific directions. I knelt down to investigate the object to my left. It was a rock. "Pick it up! Pick it up!" Uberbob called out over the shrieking wind. "It's a rock!" I yelled back, "A heavy one. I don't want to carry a rock!" "But it could be important!" I glared darkly. "It's a rock. It doesn't even look like a good rock." |
