National Tournament Match Reports
I officially announce The National Tournament now opened. However, the first match is yet to be played on next weekend, most likely Saturday. Since a quick tournament on weekdays seemed to be bad for a big part of players, our crew has decided to change the tournament length and rhytme. The games are now all to be played on weekends, Saturday and Sunday are the options. The thing would probably last 7 weekends at the longest for now, but however if some countries happened to be able to play two matches on one weekend, it might shorten. Since it would be rushy to just finish this off as soon as possible, I will be updating this thread with information during the next week. As you can see, now use this as the main thread for the tournament, which is for Match reports too.
Countries participating (5) Finland North America The Netherlands Poland United Kingdom Tournament supervisors Game mode: CTF Mappool for Groupstage Information about the tournament structure Groupstage: On the groupstage, all the 5 participating countries are put into one main group. All the countries play against each other once. A match consists of two rounds, each till 10 points or 15 minutes, whichever comes first. If a round is tied after 15 minutes, it counts as a draw. If a match is tied in total scores after two rounds, it counts as a draw. Each team gets to choose a map from the mappool for one round. You are allowed to play on a map that is not included in the mappool as well, but then both your and your opponent team must agree on it. However, you cannot argue on a map that is included in the mappool. Groupstage scoring: A victory is score-based. Your team receives 1 point for a total victory, and one additional point for each round they win in scores. For example Nation A vs Nation B: Nation A wins round 1 10-5 (1 point for Nation A) Nation A and Nation B tie round 2 5-5 (No point to either country, but Nation A wins the match 15-10 in total, and so receives 1 point) After the groupstage ends, the country that has got the least amount of points of all 5 teams, gets knocked out of the eliminationstage. Eliminationstage The country with the highest score(number 1)from groupstage faces number 4(last qualified country) from the groupstage. On the other semi-final, countries 2, and 3 face each other. The winning countries face each other in the Grand Final, while the lost countries face each other in the Bronze Final. For eliminationstage there will be a mappool of 3 maps, that will be published later. Both teams are forced to pick one of them for one round. Now only total score-based wins matter. If the total score is still tied after two rounds, the third map that wasn't chosen by either gets played on the extra third round. If the game is still tied after 15 minutes of round 3, the same round continues, and the team to score the next point, wins the match. About hosts: Hosts for the matches should be searched beforehand as well. It should be as neutral as possible(at least not from either of the playing countries.) Hosts require jj2+ and a bit of knowledge for it. They should also be able to provide logs from played matches. Upcoming matches: An order for the groupstage matches has been officially drawn with one representant from each participating country. You can agree on any suitable time with your opponent country, as long as the match gets played within the given date(s). Game Weekend #1 5th and 6th July Finland vs United Kingdom The Netherlands vs Poland (North America rests) Game Weekend #2 6th and 12th July United Kingdom vs Poland Finland vs North America (The Netherlands rests)

Netherlands Vs. Poland.
Dutchies choice: JE. Sweet, Vegito and Quickz Vs. Maverick, Sperry and Robee. (5-3) Note: We actually quit at 14:20 minutes because we thought it was to 5 at first. We decided not to play the last 40 seconds anymore though. Polska's choice: BBlair. DarkSonic, Vegito and Quickz Vs. Maverick, Sperry and Robee. (3-3) Exciting match. I had the feeling me, Quickz and DS were making it ourselves way harder than it should have been at first. We were working against eachother rather than helping eachother. Anyway, at 0-2 to them with 5 minutes left or so we finally started to play better and better. Heh. Made it 3-2 rather quick, then they scored another point but it was too late. And Mave... STOP CHATTING SO MUCH AT JJ2! |

Finland vs United Kingdom
Finland: Snooze, St.Louis, and Superjazz United Kingdom: Green Plant, Messiah, Ragnarok Round 1 9-3 (BloodBunny's Lair) (FIN choice) In begin we were truly asleep. They were evil to also abuse the red's carrot by shooting it one floor lower. They just rushed the two first points and it was 2-0 to them in no time. Once we got our game rolling though, we were scoring points one by one smoothly. I somehow managed to once even tripleroast them, and thus scored one more point for ourselves too. It was 9-2 a few minutes before the end, but trying to get the last finishing score was really hard. We tried that too hard and they scored once more before the end. My movement was also rather jammed here, probably not enough warmed up. A decent game from us, if not the begin though. They had a really working tactic for the first strike, I have to admit. Round 2 5-8 (Security Breach v2) (UK choice) They murdered us in the begin again. Then it became more even, when we got our opening scores also. Not for long however, since they really managed to pwn us off here, because our teamplay sucked hard. Their Roast/Death statistics were way worse than ours in the end, yet they scored a lot, meaning they didn't waste their chances, unlike we did. Guess we need to train ourselves up. This map was a wise pick from Ragnarok too. A Gg. BBLair Stats: Snooze: 2 scores, 24 roasts, 9 deaths St.Louis: 3 scores, 19 roasts, 19 deaths Superjazz: 4 scores, 20 roasts, 20 deaths Green Plant: 2 scores, 14 roasts, 26 deaths Messiah: 1 score, 14 roasts, 21 deaths Ragnarok: 0 scores, 20 roasts, 16 deaths SB2 Stats: Snooze: 1 score, 24 roasts, 13 deaths St.Louis: 1 score, 10 roasts, 17 deaths Superjazz: 3 scores, 25 roasts, 14 deaths Green Plant: 4 scores, 11 roasts, 19 deaths Messiah: 3 scores, 11 roasts, 21 deaths Ragnarok: 1 score, 22 roasts, 19 deaths

To haste things up, you are now allowed to play the matches of the Game Weekend #2 already today. Still, if your country for some reason isn't able to play at all, you can still do that on the next weekend's Saturday.
Game Weekend #2 6th and 12th July United Kingdom vs Poland Finland vs North America (The Netherlands rests) I also submitted a standings table to the bottom of the opening post. I will update it always when I'm able to. Not to be updated for the next two weeks though.

Poland vs United Kingdom
Round 1 Poland: Slayer, Sperry, Robee United Kingdom: Green Plant, Messiah, Ragnarok 5-1 (BloodBunny's Lair) (POL choice) United Kingdom pretty much surprises Poland after surprising Finland. Poland however, gets the opening score here. United Kingdom doesn't give up and ties the game to 1-1 soon. Then, as known, Poland begins it's rumble in this level. They had chance for a few more scores, but didn't use them all. That way UK doesn't lose too hard against them. Round 2 Poland: Maverick, Slayer, Sperry United Kingdom: (same) 5-5 (Security Breach v2) (UK choice) United Kingdom is again strong in the begin. They score the first point from almost the first strike, and take the 2nd one soon as well. Then for the rest of the match they pretty much lose the 'touch' and Poland scores precious points. United Kingdom can barely save most of their scoring attempts still. Then comes the exciting part. Poland is leading 5-3 in the last minute. They seem to be ready to end the match already, however UK is still razorblade sharp, and score. Then Messiah captures, and rushes the last point to tie the game up, while his mates are defending the base up. Good games. Anyone with playlog, post the statistics.

I take the blame for the pathetic play of team Finland in the Sbv2 round against Great-Britain. I shall work towards that never reoccurring. (Besides, a big part of it was lag that wasn't featured in the first round, dunno what's up with that).

The next couple of matches can be played within two weekends, since I won't be available until two weeks. This also contains the Finland vs North America match from the current Game Weekend #2.

One can't do much if people are not willing to play ;X Without SJ Finland rather don't have a team, and afaik you and GP are also unable to play now ;P I tried to organize a match between Poland and North Amercia, but from them only Hitch looked like really willing to play.
However the tournament can be still easily revived. Just play all matches which you should ;P

Let's wait till SJ comes back to stay (aka around 5 and a half months, I assume) and then see what will come out of this. That is, unless someone wants to take over...

Depends on your and Sasik's activity (or whoever you might add as a co-supervisor.)
Don't count on me though, I'm quite busy these days. Of course I can provide some assistance when I'm available, and I've got nothing against resurrecting this (again). |

Viv contacted me about reviving this tournament yesterday.
What do you guys think? It was a fun tournament, and reviving it could be a good idea. Sure the Netherlands would usually be able to get 3 players, same for Poland, Finland and perhaps the UK I suppose. |
Mar 27, 2009, 10:47 AM | |
Only what I really need to do to melt this thing is to get the team rosters up-to-date. As far as I know, team North America is now counted out unless there will be enough activity soon. That would mean there are 3 matches remaining for the groupstage. Those are:
Finland vs Poland Finland vs The Netherlands The Netherlands vs United Kingdom Half of the matches have been played. Now each country should gather as many players as possible to play for this. Also, we'll have to work hard with Emp for a team for Finland, I guess. The matches no more have an order which they should be played in. So yeah, you could now just arrange times yourself. I would give a deadline for all those 3 matches to be played till though. To avoid a mess in the gathering, I've named these people as country leaders responsible to find enough players for their country's team. FIN - SJ/Emp NL - Veg/DS POL - Sasik/Sperry UK - Rag/PJ Also I would like to welcome our two new Supervisors: Grytolle - Will be hopefully setting up a section in jj.net for this tournament as well Ragnarok - Will be handling things mainly for UK (Now that there's at least one supervisor from each participating country, things should become handy) If things start to go on smooth, you can expect we could get this going again on the next week maybe! Time to get it running!

I haven't been too interested in JJ2 lately, but our first match was so much fun that I'd be happy to play for the Netherlands..
