Music coversion
Can somebody please help me? Can somebody please covert the first 3 minutes of this song into s3m or .it format to use in my levels? If you do, I will repay you somehow. Thanks!

This can't really be done easily. .it and .s3m files are made up of a bunch of short wave sounds which are played at various times. It would be possible to simply convert it, but you would end up with a huge file that Jazz couldn't play. The only real way to get this song into a usable file would be to download a program like ModPlug Tracker and rewrite the song from scratch.

Add-on: The thing that happens why the file get's so big:.....
The music normally is composed in channels with each line short sounding samples. the thing happens if you extract it that it is going to use 1 channel and converting the WHOLE mp3 to one sample! it simply can't write all samples in a mp3 song invidual.

I've seen it done. Then can somebody recompose the first 3 minutes for me then? Violet did it in time tripping.

Playing with the converters, I did convert a .mp3 to .mod - But at a rather severe cost in quality.
The way I did it was to convert the MP3 into a wave file (Winamp is good at this) while adjusting the converter's quality to lower the file size (wav's are huge files. don't be shocked if you see a 30mb wav come out!). Why go through this step? Wavs can be loaded into modplug. Save it as a mod, make sure the size is AT LEAST below 2.8mb (Otherwise jj2 will get amnesia errors), then load the song into jj2. Listen to the whole song to ensure it loops right - converted wavs have a constant habit of looping mid-song. The trick to fix this is to add more playing space and slow the script speed. This will require some constant tinkering. The result is a (Grainy) song that is still rather large in size, that won't loop right in winamp, but loops okay in JJ2. Time and quality wise though, Unless you are willing to recompose the song into modplug (You need to know how to play a keyboard!), and until a MP3 add-on comes for JJ2, it's easier to search the Mod Archive and find a good substitue song. |

ok I got file into an .it file. Can somebody cut back the size of the file for me? If it means lowering the quality, that's ok.

1. the max is 2 MB (somehow more foor jj2+ users i found out)
2.you do not need how to play keyboard..just be musical.. and knowing what to do.. you don't even really need to play an instrument.. since you can learn a lot in music while composing

Tileset size and level size is related to it as well I believe. I just tried to load a 2.8mb .it into a top3 tileset (1.23) (With nothing in the layout!) and could not even get the level to load.

Just get jazz2+, run a level, and type '/np'. This will display the file you are listening to. Then go into your C://Games/Jazz2/ folder then search for the file there. It is openable in winamp if it is an *.s3m file, an *.it file, an *.xm file or an *.mod file. If anything else, you can't listen to it.
If you feel the need to, you can copy the files to any place where they are easier to find. (Like on your desktop, for example.) Whenever I can, if I'm building a level I usually listen to the song the level uses while using JCS. But I have a lot of patience, and while that might seem very tiring, for me it's not.
