JJ2 Music Search - I'm desperate
The problem is: I once had a really cool music file for JJ2, and would die to hear it now, but I can't find it. Seems like I don't have it anymore, and I have no idea what its name was or where I got it from in the first place. Though that must have been a single player pack or level, as I seldomly downloaded anything else back in those days.
Anyway, the track is very mellow, with a melancholic feel. Probably the most noticable feature is a sample of a laughing child spread throughout (sounds bizarre, but it is like that). There was also some scratching if I remember correctly, and mellow keyboard melodies. I think it was an xm file, but I could be wrong. If anyone thinks he (or she) knows which track I mean, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. ![]()

Now I have the track, but I can't listen to it unless I open a level with it in JJ2.
I know there are xm-players for download, but I would much prefer a software to convert it to MP3 instead. I looked, but didn't find any freeware. And no, I won't pay 20 bucks just to convert a single file. Any ideas?

Winamp can't play it either. No wait, it can! Awesome, thanks!
Now... where's that MP3 Converter button?

So, there's no way I could convert it to MP3? (without paying 20 dollars, that is) I'd like to use the track in my DJ Sets, and for that I need a format that can be burned onto an audio cd.

I see someone's already uploaded an MP3 of it, but if you wanted to do it yourself (say with another song), download XMPlay and LAME and extract both to the same directory. Run XMPlay, and follow the instructions here and here to set up the encoder. Then just play the song in XMPlay, and instead of coming out the speakers it'll create an MP3 of it.

I think ModPlug Tracker can export MP3 format, I did it with some modules
Anyway, that song is MP3 now already

I get an "Object Error" trying to download the MP3 file. Anyone else has a problem with that?

If you can't download it, try here, the same file as on flyupload, but on my server.

Thanks.
![]() *edit* I hate to be annoying, but why is it only 1 minute and 52 seconds long? Should be about three minutes.

Quote:
the answer to your question, In short, is impossible. Modules, the general name for mod, XM, it etc, are much like MIDI's, in that the song runs along a script and plays individual soundwaves, called samples, to make the music you hear. .wav, .ogg and MP3 have the entire soundwave recorded (That is why their filesize compared to modules are so large). So if you load a wave file, it is played, in my words, "Like a big sample". It is possible to load a .wav file into modtracker and convert it to a module, but the file size will be so grotesque that JJ2 will not play it anyway (The aproximate maximum filesize jj2 (Without plus) can handle is 2mb, and even then you risk getting amnesia errors). the only way you can get it to play is to reduce the quality of the sample, but by the time jj2 can handle it, it will sound like a xylophone being played over a cheap telephone. I suggest, other than upgrading to jj2+ and getting mp3 support for your music, is to browse the ModArchive and find somthing you like. Quote:
![]() anyway, I just use ModPlug to convert modules to .mp3's. The file menu has a "Save as MP3" that is rather obvious as to what its function is. |
