JDC 17 General Discussion Thread
http://www.jazz2online.com/jdc
Season 17 is starting in a couple of days. This thread will serve as a place to discuss the season, and also report any problems, comments or suggestions. Scoring this season will be very similar to the previous one. In every round (except the first), 2/3 of your points will be from roast:fall, and 1/3 will be from opponent quality. The total amount of points possible will also increase by each round, which means the later rounds will be worth a lot more than the earlier ones. Last season it started at 180, and increased by 45 each round. This season the numbers might be a bit different, but the principle is the same. The biggest change for now is that we've made it so you are limited to 7 small events (3vs3 and so on) per week, rather than 1 per day. Point-wise this makes no difference, but it does give players more freedom. Season 16 was one of the most active we've ever had. Perhaps the most active (it's hard to measure). As for this season, it's impossible to predict how it will turn out, but I'm optimistic at least. This season will be a long one. Past seasons have usually been in the area of 6-8 rounds. The last two went for 7 rounds. This time we're going to go for at least 10. Finally, I'd like to say congratulations to Sperry for having her logo selected for season 17. Details on the opening event will be posted soon. It will be CTF, mainly, and longer than average.

Read the "What is JDC?" section of this page, and the two sections that show the rules. That will give you the best overview. Note that you can't do anything until tomorrow, when the tournament starts. It's up to you to arrange your own duels, 2vs2 games, etc. You can also join events, which are posted on the site regularly (but join early, because they usually fill up fast). Edit: oh and make sure you get jj2+. The vast majority of JDC users have it installed, and it's pretty much expected these days (most events will probably require it from now on). The season has started. Will YOU get the first duel of the season? (probably not)
At the moment things are set so the first round will be worth 150 points, and from then on it will increase by 30 points each round. This is a bit of a decrease from last season, but the longer season means the overall increase will be greater in the end. |

A little heads-up:
I'm going to leave a server on for (probably) an entire week or so. For the password/availability, you can add/ask me on MSN. The server will be used for duels and 2vs2's, battle and CTF. Joiners will auto-spectate so they won't immediately interrupt a duel. If you have a problem with people spectating, you could close the server by setting the max players to 3 or 5 (host + players), though I'd love to see people spectating. The password and admin-password will change regularly to prevent people from abusing the server. The levellist is quite complete. If there are any levels not present you want to play, gimme a word on MSN, I'll make sure it'll be in the list soon enough. When I'm not on MSN, I'm probably at work or at school or something, so you'll have to deal with the levels that are present at the moment... though the choice of levels (207 CTF levels) seems plenty to me. And, of course, good luck to all! Let's make this a good JDC. |

For your server, you might want to post which levels are available to choose from in convenient places such as your signature. It helps to include both the filename and level name for each level.

The server is back up, and the CTF levels currently available will be visible through the link in my signature.

Nope. There was talk about that but no actual concrete plan. Basically it would have started if there was a lot of demand or if someone took the initiative to run it.
The next season will basically happen once someone goes "hey, let's do another JDC season!" I can't say when that will be, and I'll be taking a fairly limited role in organizing it, unlike the last two (in other words, someone else will be in charge). So it's really not up to me. For now though, there are other tournaments, at least. |
